The purpose of this document is to clarify the arrangements for the completion of the Newly Qualified Social Worker Programme.

Newly Qualified Social Worker

You can expect:

·  A 10% work load relief for the first year after qualifying (or up to 18 months if you work part time) to enable you to have professional development time to help you achieve the Outcome Statements. Including a 2 half days per month study time

·  Reflective supervision – weekly for the first 6 weeks, then fortnightly for 6 months and monthly for the remainder of the year. Your supervisor must be a qualified social worker.

·  To be part of an organised network of NQSW’s & to meet with them in 12 times over an 12 month period, arranged & facilitated by an experienced social worker. The aim of these Professional Practice Groups is to help you with the transition from social work student to confident practitioner.

·  Development time & practical support to ensure that your NQSW portfolio can be accredited towards the achievement of the PQ consolidation.

·  An induction programme, which will be tailored to meet your individual learning/professional needs.

·  Support from the Professional Development team in accessing resources/information from Skills for Care.

Your responsibilities:

·  An overall commitment to the NQSW Framework,

·  To participate in the induction programme developed for you by your manager.

·  To agree and sign a supervision contract with you supervisor/line manager,

·  To agree a training/development plan with your supervisor as part of your IPP.

To complete the NQSW Outcome Statements within 12 months (or longer if working part time). 2 pieces of written evidence are required per outcome. This will be evidenced within 12 notepads and they will be a mix of personal reflection, case management and must incorporate around 2/3 social work theory, policy and legislation (with appropriate references)..

·  A commitment to attend & take an active role in the twelve NQSW Professional Practice Groups. You will need to attend a minimum of eight groups to be able to complete the programme.

·  To undertake two assessed direct observations of your practice, 1 with your supervisor and 1 with the NQSW project coordinator (one at beginning of the year & second, towards the end of the year).

Supervisor/Manager

You can expect:

·  Training on reflective supervision to supplement your existing skills, provided by an external trainer.

·  If you are not a registered social worker, reflective supervision to be provided free of charge to your NQSW for 1 year (supplementary to your usual planned case load supervision).

·  An initial visit from a member of the professional development team to help your and your member of staff plan for the programme.

·  Support from the L&D team in accessing resources/information from Skills for Care.

Your responsibilities

·  A commitment to the NQSW Framework.

·  To provide 10% work load relief for your NQSW in their first year.

·  To provide supervision weekly for the first 6 weeks, fortnightly for the next 6 months & 4 weekly there after.

·  To provide an induction programme suited to the individual learning and developmental needs of your NQSW.

·  To agree a supervision contract a training & development plan with your NQSW (within their IPP).

·  Ensure that your NQSW has sufficient time allocated to attend appropriate induction / training courses & all of the NQSW Professional Practice Groups.

·  To undertake 1 direct observation visits with the NQSW.
