Study Abroad Evaluation

2002-03

Because we are always working to improve our exchange programs, we would like you to please fill out the following evaluation and return it to Christina Linhoff, 4-104 CSOM. If you have further comments, feel free to write on the back or contact our staff for a one-on-one evaluation. Thank you for your help!

Program attended: ______

A. Pre-Departure Preparations

1. How accurate was the information you received in general?

Pretty accurate.

  1. How accurate were the financial expectations?

Clear

  1. How helpful were the cultural and social preparations?

Good

  1. What recommendations would you offer for improvement of pre-departure information?

I would have liked to know more of the logistics. I.e. when my grades will be transferred, etc.

B. Logistics at Partner School

1. How would you rate your arrival and orientation to the partner school and city?

Problematic. The MBA program in NZ is very small and I was one of two exchange students. There was no formal orientation for us and it was actually quite confusing to get registered, etc. This is because the only program that was in session was the MBA program. The remainder of the school was on summer break.

The traditional international orientation was not held until the end of February; we almost did not need it any longer since we had already been in NZ for more than a month.

2. Were there additional information and activities that would have helped your adjustment?

Not really

3. Please comment on the housing, food, and local transportation at your host university.

I lived in Lovelock House which was very decent. It was a perfect place to live for the 11 weeks. There is no public transportation at the school, which is fine considering everything is in walking distance.

C. General

Overall, how well did your expectations match your experience?

I expected a bigger program. The program only had about 10 full time students and some part- time students. I would have liked a larger population and a larger choice of courses.

What kinds of students do you think are a good “fit” for this program?

Students who are really adaptable and enjoy and small setting. Also students who LOVE teamwork would like this program.

Would you recommend this program to another student? Why or why not?

Maybe…it was fine for 11 weeks. I definitely did not love any of the classes. It was also hard because we were entering at the second module and all the students had already developed relationships. Even though they included us, we definitely felt like outsiders. Also, Dunedin is the quintessential college town, so if you are looking for an interesting cultural experience, you may not find it there.

D.Contact Information

If you would be willing to be contacted by prospective students to this program, please let us know how we can reach you! Your preferred e-mail (for student contacts), and address/phone (for our office) would be much appreciated!

Thank you for taking the time to fill out this evaluation! Please return it to:
