ANNOUNCER OPEN

The following program, “Bless Israel with Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein,” is made possible through the prayers and blessings of friends and supporters of The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.

Yechiel: / These are the hills of Nazareth, the holy land of Israel. There was a time when the land throughout Israel was filled with tourists. People were coming to search out the Jewish roots of their faith, to walk where Jesus walked, to live the land of the bible, to make it come alive.
It's a very different situation today. It's heartbreaking. We want to show you exactly what it's like.
(Singing)
Yechiel: / If you can't hear this woman's pain, then you are not human.
Speaker 2: / Behold, he who guards Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
Speaker 6: / There are poor people and those who are literally not eating.
Speaker 2: / He will guard your going forth and your coming in from this time forth and forever.
Yechiel: / It hurts us to see you eating like this from the garbage and not having a place to stay. Why? What happened?
Speaker 2: / The lord is your guardian.
Yechiel: / Behold, the guardian of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. That is a biblical promise to us, which we can rely on, but of course, God's promise works through and with people. People like you and me.
When we looked at the situation in Israel, we in The Fellowship felt that God was calling us to respond to those cries of the needy, those who were in such pain to provide them with food, with clothing, with their basic needs. It was that calling and those cries and those tears that prompted us in The Fellowship to launch the Guardians of Israel.
I founded the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews in 1983 with two major goals. Firstly, to build bridges of understanding and healing between Christians and Jews. Secondly, to foster cooperation on issues of shared biblical concern. We try to achieve these two goals by providing Christians with ways in which they can demonstrate their solidarity with Israel and the Jewish people and bless them and be blessed accordingly.
(Singing)
It was in this land of Israel that Christianity was shaped, that Judaism on its path continued in a different way, but with the same core values stemming from the bible. One of those values is compassion. It is a message that unites us; that we need to bring to the whole world. The message of compassion. The message of charity.
Yechiel: / The word charity conveys the feeling of going beyond the letter of the law. Being a super nice person.
Rabbi Cohen: / It means doing justice to your fellow, to your neighbor. It's your duty, you're doing justice.
Yechiel: / It's something that bonds Christians and Jews alike.
Speaker 3: / [Hebrew]
Yechiel: / This woman is on the very verge of life itself. Her husband beat her with her three kids. She can barely walk. She's had a number of surgeries and she has to have another surgery and she doesn't have the money for that.
This woman is a Christian here in Israel, here in Nazareth, the place where Jesus grew up. Today is a special day for her and why she's particularly upset, her son is celebrating his 6th birthday. He woke up this morning and she came and she gave him a hug and she gave him a kiss and she said, "Mazal Tov, congratulations. Happy birthday." But she couldn't give him anything else. She couldn't give him a present, couldn't give him anything, but a piece of bread for breakfast. Her life is for you as it is for me. This is painful. This is his 6th birthday and she can't give him anything. Mazal Tov, Mazal Tov. She can give him her love, we can give them our love. We can help them make it.

In a crisis moment in Israel such as an attack from terrorists, poor and struggling Jewish families are vulnerable. Many are orphan children, widows and elderly Holocaust survivors who cannot care for themselves during these times.

Guardians of Israel provides food, clothing, shelter, housing, and other urgent needs for all Israelis, and especially for children and the elderly, who are suffering due to poverty, terrorism, and war.

Pat Robertson: / I commend Rabbi Eckstein for the work that he's doing with The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews to alert us all to the biblical roots of modern day Israel and also to encourage Christians to involve themselves in supporting Israel and the Jewish people.
Yechiel: / Rema’s situation is very different from others. She's alone here, she's an immigrant from the former Soviet Union. She's here with her 80 year old mother who she has to care for and her son Juli. Six months ago, Juli developed cancer. Her problem which we helped resolve is that she did not have the money for transportation to the sessions of cancer treatment for her son Juli. Transportation, that's all she wanted and that's all that we were able to provide. It's a miracle for her that he's, hopefully, getting better and having this treatment and we are her miracle.
Clarence: / Today we're seeing how when God said he would them back he also didn't say it's going to be easy. Ezekiel 36 says he’ll prosper the land, but he also said there will be great difficulties and there will be challenges.
Rabbi Cohen: / Everybody knows in the country that absorbs new immigrants it has such serious security problems that a very large part of the national income has to be spent on security. It's only natural that there'll be economic problems.
Yechiel: / The economic situation here in Israel in recent years has deteriorated drastically. Terrorism has definitely taken its toll.
social worker: / The elderly at this point, it's very much affecting them with medicine. Unfortunately, they have to make the decision. Food, drink, going out of bus or buying their medicine.
Yechiel: / Leonard and Irena are here in Israel thanks to our help. They came On Wings of Eagles from the Ukraine. Leonard had a stroke a little while ago, was in the hospital for quite a while. Irena is sick with her liver. Through the pains and through the difficult situation that they are in two thirds of the monthly income that they get from social security goes to pay rent. The remaining one third has to go pay for things like medicine, for food. I saw their electric bills. They can't afford to pay any of those bills. They keep going more and more into debt until the companies finally just stop giving them electricity, stop giving them water. There's just no more money in what they get monthly. We helped bring them here. We are responsible to help them at their time of need and now is their time of need.
Clarence: / We are called to be a blessing to them. Jesus said to help his brethren. Jesus spoke in Matthew 25 when he talked about the separation of the sheep and the goats. He said it was going to be predicated on how we bless and how we help the Jewish people.
Pat Robertson: / I believe a blessing has been ordained by God for those who bless Abraham and the descendants of Abraham through Isaac and through Jacob and all the way to the current nation of Israel.
Yechiel: / Our helping the people of Israel at their time of need will come back to benefit us, indeed, as we all know the bible says in Genesis that God promises to bless those who bless his children, Israel. As the bible says, you are to help your brothers until the Lord gives them rest. We, indeed, pray for that day.

(News Excerpt)
Speaker 10: / A nation with no natural resources and smaller than the state of New Jersey is the target of relentless media speculation and intense daily scrutiny by the world's most powerful leaders. It is the only nation of the 191 member United Nations that is permanently prohibited from ever serving on the UN Security Council. A nation surrounded by 19 Arab countries that refuse to recognize its right to exist and seek its destruction by unleashing the most potent form of evil the world has seen since the Third Reich. Terror.
Yechiel: / Today we see a spirit of evil that seeks to surround and to rid this nation of its Jewish people.
Speaker 6: / It's everywhere, Jerusalem, in Netanya, in Tel Aviv, they are everywhere.
Yechiel: / The attack is not just on the people of Israel in the bodily sense. It's on their psyche. It's trying to break our morale.
Yechiel: / "All the nations of the world surrounded me and they sought to destroy me," says King David in the Psalms. King David could have written those words today. The people of Israel have been enduring this battle for many, many years and it's taking a terrible toll.
deputy major: / Now it's a very sad situation. Every day we have more and more families coming, please, help us. Help us with food, help us with finding jobs, help us with clothes, things that we didn't know before.
Yechiel: / A number of mayors who until recently refused to have shelters for the homeless or soup kitchens for the elderly because they said, "We don't have homeless here. We don't have poor." These mayors are now coming and banging at our door, the doors of the Guardians of Israel Fellowship program and pleading with us to help the people in their city.
mayor, Acco: / You are asking me what is the solution? I don't sleep. The only solution is, for me, to cry.
Speaker 8: / [Hebrew 00:18:41]
Yechiel: / Chaya is a woman, she's a single mother, who is barely holding on to life. She can afford one chicken a week for the whole family which she saves for Sabbath. She was just telling me her daughter has asthma. Yesterday she had an attack and she didn't have the money for the medicine for her daughter with asthma. She says, "How do you think I feel as a mother trying to help my daughter, and I can't?" We help mothers, children like this throughout Israel to make it.
Speaker 8: / [Hebrew]
Yechiel: / God is turning to you and me to do something about it.
Speaker 1: / Become a Guardian of Israel at this critical time
Jarry: / I deeply appreciate the work that Rabbi Eckstein is doing to bridge those relationships between Christians and Jews. The rabbi to me is an outstanding international citizen for peace and for the peace of Jerusalem in particular.
Yechiel: / These people and others thousands like them, if they would not have the food that we prepare and that we give to them, they literally, have nowhere else to turn. It's very interesting and God works in mysterious ways, but this is an orthodox neighborhood. These orthodox Jews are receiving help and blessing from Christians in America. God, indeed, works in mysterious ways and gives us the opportunity to help our brothers and sisters.

ANNOUNCER ASK #3
Proverbs 19 verse 11 says, “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.”
Many throughout Israel are struggling to live. It’s not unusual for these impoverished Jews to go to bed hungry without a meal, or to go to sleep without warm clothing in the winter.
To make matters worse, Israel remains engaged in an ongoing struggle with deadly enemies committed to her destruction. Israelis and their families have been impacted by terror attacks, and many continue to work to rebuild their lives today.
Meanwhile, to cope with the growing security threat, the Israeli government has had to divert funds previously used for critical social programs into national defense.
This is where The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews’ Guardians of Israel program steps in and responds to this desperate situation, through initiatives that ease the suffering of needy Israelis, providing them with food, housing, medical care, clothing and other essentials.
We’re asking you today to partner with us and join the Guardians of Israel program with a generous one-time gift of $150.

Additionally with the help of faithful Christians like you, The Fellowship has made the commitment to protect Israelis in the north and near Gaza by funding the renovation of 2,500 bomb shelters in these areas.
All this happens through The Fellowship’s Guardians of Israel program. And you can be part of it today, right where you are, by giving a financial blessing of $150 to help this vital program.
