Tues 9/13In your Writing Group, analyze a student narrative. What does the narrative communicate and how? Using the scoring guide that will be used to grade your essays, “score” the student narrative read yesterday individually, then discuss/share your results with your Writing Group and the class. What score did you give and why – what about the writing earned that score?
Wed 9/14In your Writing Group, examine previous students’ essays on family and evaluate.
Thurs 9/15Work day. Bring your laptop in or use one of the school laptops to work on your first draft of the family essay.
Fri 9/16PEER CRITIQUE DAY – Have your narrative essay done and print enough copies so each member of your group has a copy. You will receive instructions (and a grade) for your peer critique work today. Sign up for teacher critique day. Homework: revise your essay based on peer feedback as well as your continued thinking about the topic into a more solid second draft for teacher critique.
NOTE on Teacher Critiques: You will turn in your 2nd draft electronically (on a flash drive or by email to ) by or before the due date you sign up for. (Late submissions will be docked points.) I will return the critique to you for you to examine and revise. If you would like to conference in person about the suggestions I make on your paper, we can do so after school.
