The induction process

  • Short introduction of new member by the sponsor
  • Introduction of mentor and their duties – can be done by person doing induction, president or committee chair
  • Induction of new member
  • Presentation of Rotary pin, name badge and new members kit
  • Digital photo of new member for the web site
  • Welcome by all members

______, I am pleased to welcome you to the Rotary club of Tsawwassen and to Rotary International, an organization of men and women around the world whose motto is Service Above Self. You are joining over 1.2 million Rotarians who believe in this motto.

Rotary, founded by Paul Harris and three friends in 1905, welcomes people of all races, religions, cultures and creeds and promotes cultural understanding throughout the world in over 166 countries and in more than 33,000 clubs.

______, as a new Rotarian you will have many opportunities for fellowship and service to others throughout our club and District through the Five Avenues of Service:

  • Club Service - which involves all of the activities Rotarians perform to make their club function successfully;
  • Vocational Service - an opportunity each Rotarian has to represent the dignity and utility of one’s vocation to other members;
  • Community Service - which pertains to the activities Rotarians do to improve the quality of life in their community;
  • International Service - the many programs and activities Rotarians undertake to advance international understanding, peace and goodwill.
  • New Generations – youth and young adults involved in leadership development activities, community and international service projects, and exchange programs that enrich and foster world peace and cultural understanding

As a new Rotarian you also have a number of obligations including:

  • Regular attendance of meetings
  • Make-ups at other clubs when away;
  • Involvement and participation in club projects, events and Rotary functions;

And to apply the Four Way Test which was written in 1932 by Rotarian Herbert Taylor.

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build goodwill and better Friendships?
  4. Will it beneficial to all concerned?

Rotarians are expected to apply this in their daily lives in the things they think, say or do.

And ______, our members also have an obligation to you; to ensure that you learn about Rotary, have opportunities for service and fellowship and make you feel a part of our Rotary family.

Membership opens the door to Rotary around the world and it is my privilege to present you with your Rotary pin, wear it with pride.

•Brief overview of Rotary Worldwide--# of clubs and total members + talk about our club size relative to other clubs in the district

•Discussion of the 4 way test and maybe point to the 4 way test on the wall to emphasize

•Discussion on "Service above Self" and what that means

•Attendance- strong emphasis on attendance at the 60% level and discussmake-up meetings

•Get involved--attend wheelers and other social event to get to know your fellow Rotarians

Fellow Rotarians, it is my privilege and pleasure today to welcome

GREG MUIRHEAD and SHANE TODDHUNTER into our club today. Their proposals has been reviewed in accordance with our club constitution and by-laws.

We will now proceed to admit you into membership in the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen and to the friendship of Rotary throughout the world. It has already been explained to you that the ideal of Rotary is service. Our principal motto is Service Above Self. The object of this club and all Rotary clubs is to encourage and foster this ideal as a basis of worthy enterprise. You are to share in this effort.

You have been approved for membership in this club because:

  1. We believe you are a worthy representative of your vocation.
  2. You are interested in the ideals of Rotary.
  3. You are willing to do your share in translating these ideals into action.
  4. You have agreed to accept the obligations of membership in this club and to obey this club’s constitution and bylaws.
  5. You will do your best to live up to the Four Way Test in everything you think, say or do.

Now I have the pleasure of asking your proposer to “pin you”. We hope you will wear it with pride. Welcome to the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen.

Fellow Rotarians , I am happy to present to you Rotarians GREG MUIRHEAD and SHANE TODDHUNTER, our newest members.

You are now eligible to attend any of the 33,000 Rotary clubs in 200 countries around the world.

Last, but by no means least, is our ideal of friendship. As you expect to receive, so give. May you be stimulated by the friendship you find here, and may we in return know you to be an added source of strength to our club.
