NEW! Differentiating Presentations: Varied Tools and Resources to Enhance Student Learning

Credit: 48 Professional Development hours or 3 credits in-service

In this 48 hour course, participants will examine instructional technology tools and resources to support the Common Core Learning Standards and the International Society of Technology Standards (ISTE). With a combination of on-site meetings and independent work, teachers will be introduced to a variety of multimedia tools to design presentations to promote active learning.

Through hands-on practice, online discussions and independent research, teachers will evaluate a variety of online presentation tools that will focus on the 4 C’s of 21st century learning: collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and communication. Teachers will learn techniques to create presentations that will engage students visually, auditorily and kinesthetically and diversify their presentation skills based on the needs of their students. Presentations developed throughout the course will afford teachers the opportunity to deliver content in small and large group settings, through Google Classroom or in flipped learning environments.

Upon completion of the course, teachers will:

  • develop a detailed lesson plan incorporating an interactive presentation tool researched during the course to enhance content delivery.
  • design a student project that will allow students to digitally present content in a creative manner.

There are two ways to register:

Course Requirements

1. Attend all face to face meetings

Complete Assignments: Participants will develop a presentation using the selected tool.

Assignment #1- Google Slides Presentation

  • Presentation must include text, links to web resources, video, animation and slide transitions

Assignment #2- MoveNote or Screencasting Presentation

  • Using the presentation created in Assignment #1, create a MoveNote or Screencast to create a video presentation including your audio for students to view independently.

Assignment #3-SMART Amp Project

  • Create a SMART Amp project including multimedia resources (web links, audio and/or video) to share with your students based on the lesson topic for your final project.

Assignment #4- Teacher’s Choice

  • Select one of the presentation tools that were presented by your classmates and create either a presentation or an example of a student project based on the lesson topic for your final project.

Respond to Google Classroom Discussions and post to our Google+ Community:

  1. Each week there will be a new post from the instructor that will include links to professional articles and videos related to topics in Instructional Technology. All participants must read and respond to the post as well as comment on two other participants’ comments.
  2. Each week there will be a presentation developed by class participants on a presentation tool. View the presentation and respond to the questions posted within Classroom. The presenter will moderate the discussion.
  3. Class participants are expected to post one article or video a week to our Google+ Community.

Final Project:

Develop a technology infused lesson plan incorporating the tools examined through the course. The lesson must include the following:

  1. Teacher Presentation - create a teacher led presentation using a tool evaluated during the course infused with multimedia resources including (web links, video and/or audio, text, and images)
  2. Student project- describe in detail and include an example of a project that will allow students to digitally present content in a creative manner utilizing a presentation tool focused on in the course.
  3. Lesson Plan components:
  • Common Core Learning Standards
  • ISTE Teacher and Student Standards
  • Learning Targets/ “I Can” Statements
  • Activities/ Tasks to meet Standards
  • Resources/Materials (Texts, Digital resources, & materials)
  • Assessments (Include a grading rubric for the student project)

Participants will share their lessons with the group at the final meeting and be asked to reflect on their lesson and presentation.
