WELCOME…………
To all our visitors this weekend.
Vocations Discernment (for young men 15-25).
“Quo Vadis – Where are you going?” Legend tells us that Saint Peter asked Jesus this question on the outskirts of Rome. We know where Jesus went in response to His Father’s will. What is the Father’s will for you? Quo Vadis Days is a time of recreation, fellowship, prayer and discussion to help you explore our Lord’s call in your life. Activities will include prayer, Mass, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Liturgy of the Hours, Rosary, hiking, games, recreation, sports, talks, great food, and discussions. A time to share our faith and meet other young men seeking God’s will. Quo Vadis Days will be held July 8-10, 2015 at the Sacred Heart Retreat Center in Newton, New Jersey. The cost is free. For more information and/or registration, contact the coordinators Fr. Jared Brogan and Fr. Edgar Rivera in the Vocations Office at (973) 777-8818, ext. #711. You can also email Frs. Brogan and Rivera at or . (SEE A SPECIAL LETTER ON PAGE 3 DESCRIBING QUO VADIS MORE COMPLETELY)
Fathers’ Day Collection
On Fathers’ Day (June 21st ) as we celebrate, it is also fitting that we affirm those men who have chosen to commit their lives to the spiritual formation of God’s family by becoming priests in our Diocese. These future priests have chosen a life of service to the Lord by serving throughout Morris, Passaic and Sussex Counties.
It is fitting that on Fathers’ Day a special collection will be taken up to be used to help with the education of our seminarians who will one day serve our parishes. Your support will greatly help to fund the formation of these young men. Thank you for your generous support.

The great sacrament of Baptism makes us a child of God, welcomes us into the Kingdom of Heaven and enables us to avoid evil, among other things. What a great gift. In order to partake of this Sacrament a parent must be a parishioner and attend a preparation class. Class is offered once a month and registration is required to take the class. Please call the office at 973-366-0060 or Alice McKeever at 973-663-0201 or e-mail to register.

THE ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: Ezekiel 17:22-24
God will restore the kingdom of Judah, as symbolized by the cedar. The deed is emphasized by the words, “As I, the Lord have spoken, so will I do.”
Second Reading: II Corinthians 5:6-10
Paul acknowledges “that we are, in a sense, away from the Lord while in this life and bound to our bodies.” We will be fully united with God in the next life, if we please him in this life.
Gospel: Mark 4:26-34
The reign of God is compared to a mustard seed which is the smallest of seeds yet grows to become the largest of shrubs. Similarly, God’s community grows gradually until it becomes large and strong.

Helping Hands Ministry
Helping Hands are available to help! Please give Gale Colucci a call at 973-476-3906. All calls are confidential.
Second Sunday of each month is Food Pantry Sunday. Please bring your non-perishable items to Mass that weekend and place on the altar steps.

/ - / Weekly Reflections
“HIS WORD TODAY” by Rev. William J. Reilly
Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
June 14, 2015
“Jesus said to the crowds: ‘This is how it is with the kingdom of God, it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land and would sleep and rise night and day and through it all the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how…To what shall we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable can we use for it? It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth. But once it is sown it springs up and becomes the largest of plants. Without parables he did not speak to them, but to his own disciples he explained everything in private.”
Jesus the teacher, teaching people of the earth and a farming environment, drew a clear picture. Jesus the teacher, speaking to us today, paints a picture of the church and our life of grace. The seed planted in baptism is nourished and grows through a life of prayer, celebration of the sacraments and support of a faith community. Growth is taking place every step of the way. What is required is the creation of an environment of warmth and light to cultivate that growth.
As I reflect on this teaching of Jesus I consider the many other parables Jesus told. Which one stands out most clearly? How do I apply it to my own spiritual life? Is it Luke’s story of the lost sheep or forgiving Father? Is it the net filled with a catch of good fish and bad? Is it even the example of salt and light in the sermon on the mount?
The beauty of the parables is that they are not limited to time and place, but speak to us today. Which one touches me now?

The Quo Vadis Experience
Dear Young Man:
This summer the diocese will be hosting a retreat at Sacred Heart Spirituality Center in Newton from July 8-10. It is an opportunity I would like you to consider. These few days away are for our best young men, ages 15-25, and will focus on prayer and discernment. We can be sure that God has a plan for each and every one of us, but we need time, space, and direction to figure out what it is. This retreat will help you to discover Christ’s call, and equip you to follow him.
No matter what God’s plan for you may be, Jesus is calling you to be courageous. The Church needs men of courage and conviction to build up the Kingdom of God in every walk of life - as priests, religious, and laymen. From what I know about you, I’d say you are a young man who will take this challenge seriously. I pray that you will take advantage of this retreat. If you are interested, please contact me or get in touch directly with Fr. Jared Brogan, who is running this retreat for the diocese. His email address is . Either of us can provide you with more information.
In the quote below, Pope Benedict XVI explored quite beautifully what it means to respond to the call of Christ. He said, “Are we not perhaps all afraid in some way? If we let Christ enter fully into our lives, if we open ourselves totally to him, are we not afraid that He might take something away from us? Are we not perhaps afraid to give up something significant, something unique, something that makes life so beautiful?... And once again [Pope John Paul II] said: No! If we let Christ into our lives, we lose nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing of what makes life free, beautiful and great. No! Only in this friendship are the doors of life opened wide. Only in this friendship is the great potential of human existence truly revealed. Only in this friendship do we experience beauty and liberation. And so, today, with great strength and great conviction, on the basis of long personal experience of life, I say to you, dear young people: Do not be afraid of Christ! He takes nothing away, and he gives you everything. When we give ourselves to him, we receive a hundredfold in return. Yes, open, open wide the doors to Christ – and you will find true life.”
Peace,
From someone who cares
