The Arlington Chess Club meets every Friday night beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the basement of the Arlington Forest United Methodist Church (AFUMC) which is located at 4701 Arlington Boulevard(Rt. 50) in Arlington, Virginia. The building is located at the corner of Arlington Boulevard and N. Henderson Road. Ample parking can be found in the lot behind the church and in overflow on side streets in the vicinity of the club.Enter through the basement/ramp door on the Henderson Road side of the church.
From LyonVillageCommunity Center (Old ACC meeting location):
Leave the parking lot and turn right up N. 20th Street. Turn right onto N. Highland Street and go toWilson Boulevard and the east exit of the Clarenden Metro station.
Turn right onto Wilson Boulevard and go to N. Quincy Street.
Turn left on N. Quincy Street. In two blocks, as you cross N. Glebe Road, the street changes from N. Quincy Street to N. Henderson Road. Continue to follow North Henderson Road past N. George Mason Drive for three blocks.
You are at the small 3-way intersection of N. 1st Street and N. Henderson Road. The fourth “way” is a left turn into the parking lot for the church. A short block further than this 3-way intersection is Arlington Boulevard (and the side road: Frontage Road).
Using Route 66 From the Beltway (I-495):
Take Exit 71 off Route 66 onto Fairfax Drive.
Within a couple of blocks you get to the first big intersection where you turn right onto N. Glebe Road. Follow this about 5 blocks and turn right onto N. Henderson Road (turning left would put you on N. Quincy Street).
Continue to follow North Henderson Road past N. George Mason Drive for three blocks.
You are at the small 3-way intersection of N. 1st Street and N. Henderson Road. The fourth “way” is a left turn into the parking lot for the church. A short block further than this 3-way intersection is Arlington Boulevard (and the side road: Frontage Road).
From Seven Corners (and the Beltway/Interstate 495):
Take Route 50/Arlington Boulevardeast(through Seven Corners if coming from the Beltway). Follow Rt 50until you get to the intersection 1st Road (there’s a small shopping center with an Outback restaurant).
Normally you would try to turn left onto N. Henderson Road - but no left turn is allowed. So, you have to take a left turn a block earlier on to 1st Road.
You immediately come to a circle. Do not take the immediate right on to Frontier Road. Take the first right off the circle on to 1st Street N. Go three blocks to the intersection with Henderson Road. The church parking lot is across the intersection from you.
From Interstate 395:
Take the exit for Washington Boulevard and follow it until you come to the exits for Arlington Boulevard(you will have passed exits for Columbia Pike and Fort Myers).
Take the second exit on the right for Arlington Boulevard headed west - the signs say: 50 West Falls Church (you have to pass under Arlington Boulevard and then take this exit on the right which is a part of “clover leaf” loop that circles to the right and up onto Arlington Boulevard leaving you headed west).
Pass through the intersections with N. Fillmore Street and S. Irving Street. Go through the underpasses for N. Glebe Road and N. George Mason Drive.
Just after the second underpass (N. George Mason Drive) start looking for an exit lane to take you onto the side road (Frontage Road). This exit lane is also just before N. Henderson Road so if you miss it, you can turn right sharply ontoHenderson at the intersection.
Just as you leave the exit lane onto Frontage Road, on the right there is a small entry lane into the Church parking lot. If you miss it, just turn right at the corner onto Henderson. Then make the first right into the main parking lot for the church.
From Washington, DC using Route 50:
Take Route 66 and the RooseveltBridge out of Washington, DC. Stay in the second lane from the right as you go over the bridge. You take the next right exit and then an immediate left at the fork, as follows:
Take the first exit at the far end of the bridge. This is a two-lane exit which splits again just after you exit Route 66 and the bridge. At this immediate split, stay in your lane taking the left forkwhich is for Route 50 exit (the right-most lane will take you to GW Parkway).
If you remained in the second lane as you took the exit from the bridge you will flow right into the exit for Route 50.
When on Route 50, you will pass a variety of exits for Rosslyn and later Arlington. Go through them all (just over a mile) until you pass the last for Fort Myer on your left and Rt 50 curvesright onto Arlington Boulevard. From there you then pass through the intersections with N. Fillmore Street and S. Irving Street. Go through the underpasses for N. Glebe Road and N. George Mason Drive.

By Metro Rail (DC’s Subway):
The closest Metro Rail station is Ballston. There is no Metro Bus from Ballston to the church – you have to walk about 10 blocks. If you want to take a bus, get off at the Rosslyn metro station instead (see below).
If you choose to walk, exit the station and go east on Fairfax Drive for two-three blocks. Turn right on to N. Quincy Street. Go two blocks to the light at Wilson Boulevard. Go straight two more blocks to the light at N. Glebe Road. As you cross N. Glebe Rd., N.Quincy becomes N. Henderson Road and you go straight three more blocks to the light at George Mason Drive. Go straight three more blocks where you come to a small 3-way intersection of N. 1st Street and N. Henderson Road. The fourth “way” is a left turn into the parking lot for the church. A short block further than this 3-way intersection is Arlington Boulevard (and the side road: Frontage Road).
By Metro Bus:
Either take Metro rail or another bus to the Rosslyn metro station. This is the starting point for the 4A and 4B buses which go by or near the AFUMC church. The 4A bus stops right in front of the church on Arlington Blvd. The 4B goes through the neighborhood behindAFUMC– it goes along Pershing Dr. to George Mason Dr. turns onto N. Henderson and turns at N. 2nd Street (this is a block North of the church parking lot at N. Henderson and N. 1st St.).
