Job Purpose:
To support the NETSCC Information Systems Team in the development of detailed reporting for NETSCC, the wider NIHR and the Department for Health.
To collaborate with end users in the elicitation of requirements and subsequent translation into technical specifications.
To undertake query development through SQL Server and the delivery of reports utilising SQL Server Reporting Services, SharePoint and Excel.

Key Accountabilities/Primary Responsibilities (6-10 bullet points maximum)
  • To participate in the delivery of reports, NETSCC metrics, project portfolio analysis and other management information as required including parliamentary questions and Department of Health enquiries.
  • To support the development of good working practises, policies and standards which support the Information Systems team and the delivery of reporting.
  • To maintain coding standards, commenting and technical documentation when producing queries.
  • Any other duties that fall within the scope of the post as allocated by the line manager following consultation with the post holder.

  • NETSCC Information Systems Team colleagues and the wider iSolutions department – working as part of an integrated team to ensure that NETSCC Information Management is developed within the University-wide framework appropriately adapted to local needs.
  • To work with other staff within the programmes to elicit and understand end user reporting requirements.

Person Specification
Criteria / Essential / Desirable / How to be assessed
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience: / Relevant NVQ3/HNC/A-level/City and Guilds or equivalent qualification or experience.
Knowledge of at least one common programming language (e.g. C, Java, Visual Basic)
Knowledge in good practise in data and service quality
Exposure to MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, Informix
Demonstrable knowledge of database design
Proven ability with SQL
Experience of working in an IT service role
Experience of providing business reporting to a client’s specification / Degree or equivalent qualification in a technical/ numerate subject
Experience with SQL Server and or Reporting Services
Significant experience of SQL development
Experience of database management tasks (e.g. backup, recovery, installation, replication)
Experience of SharePoint site development, and/ or of using SharePoint as information delivery platform
Prince 2 and/ or ITIL foundation qualification
Experience of data warehousing / Interview and practical test
