NDT Technician II – X-ray

Job Summary:

Conduct NDT(Non Destructive Testing) tests using specific techniques on aerospace products. Understand products, equipment set-up, and NDT operations. Follow specific operating procedures. Use safety specifications. Interpret and evaluate test results.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review routers, procedures, specifications, and other instructions for completeness and instructions to perform operation
  • Process parts in accordance with procedures and technical instructions to evaluate for weld, braze and/or casting discontinuities exceeding specified requirements
  • Work with X-Ray generating equipment
  • Set-up, operate, calibrate and perform Process Control Checks on NDT equipment by following established instructions and record results
  • Interpret, evaluate and report evaluation results as required and outlined
  • Fill out required logs and statistical data sheets as required
  • Maintain required job skills and knowledge of requirements (including procedures, specifications, etc.)
  • Maintain work area, equipment, and all documents/records to be audit ready at all times
  • Provide On-the-Job Training (OJT) to Level I NDT Inspectors and fellow Level II NDT Inspectors
  • Assist the Level III in developing specific test techniques
  • Completes these and other job duties as instructed

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • High School Graduate/GED
  • Currently or previously certified to NDT Level II in X-Ray in accordance with NAS-410
  • Two years manufacturing experience in non-destructive testing (Radiographic Testing Method)
  • Must have documented hours for Training, & Experienceper NAS-410 Radiographic Testing Level II (either film or non-film (digital) methods):
  • Minimum 80 Hrs classroom training
  • Minimum 800 Hrs experience
  • Both film and non-film methods strongly desired, requiring:
  • Minimum 120 Hrs classroom training
  • Minimum 1000 Hrs experience
  • Documented radiation safety training
  • Able to utilize measuring devices including comparators, micrometers, scales, and calipers
  • Able to read and interpret blueprint and engineering drawings and be able to document non-conformances as required
  • Successfully pass vision screen
  • Computer skills
  • Able to lift up to approximately 25 pounds. May occasionally lift 50 pounds (with assistance)
  • Legal authorization to work in the US
  • Ability to speak, read and write English

Desired Characteristics:

  • Aerospace or aviation experience strongly desired
  • Familiarity with AS9100, NADCAP, and other Quality/NDT auditing/ accreditation systems strongly preferred
  • Experience with digital/computed radiography (CR) strongly desired(familiarity with GE CR systems and software a plus)
  • Experience in the interpretation of flaws in castings, welds and braze joints strongly desired
  • Certification in other NDT methods (Liquid Penetrant) strongly desired
  • Positive attitude and ambition to excel / advance in skills and knowledge
  • Attention to detail and an ability to produce error free products and accurately complete paperwork
  • History of working effectively with co-workers, managers, and other employees in a team environment
  • Willingness to cross train in other NDT methods
  • As needed, available to work extended or flexible schedule on short notice
  • Able to work under general direction with minimal supervision

Must be able to demonstrate proficiency or willing to take classes in:

  • The NDE method primarily working in and its limitations (written, practical and physical examinations required for qualification/certification)
  • Manufacturing processes (i.e. Brazing, Welding & Casting) and defects associated with these processes as they relate to NDT
  • Written instructions, procedures, and specifications related to the applicable NDT process(es)

Work Environment:

  • May be exposed to moderate noise intensity (85 to 89.9 dBa)
  • May be exposed to noise, dust, fumes, airborne particles, smoke (Not over OSHA Permissible Exposure Levels)
  • Safety training and equipment are provided by MPP in accordance with applicable law, industry standards and company policy
  • Must be able to work in a radiation monitored and lead products environment (X-ray)
  • Will be required to wear PPE applicable to the test method being used
  • Able and willing to stand 90% of the time, stooping, bending, stretching, and engaging in awkward positioning
