Toast

Please send in 2 pieces of bread per child. Also, send in butter and/or jam. Please bring in a toaster.

Toast bread in a toaster. Spread with jam and/or butter.

Tinker Toys

Please send in a large bag of thin stick pretzels and 8-10 cheese cubes per child.

Give each child 10+ pretzels and cheese cubes and let them “build” as they wish.

Green Eggs and Ham

Please send in 1 egg per child, 1 1/2 cups ham, 1 cup milk and nonstick cooking spray. (Also bring in 2-3 extra eggs.)

Stir eggs, add milk and ham. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently.

Pizza Bagels/Pizza English Muffins

Please send in one bagel or English muffin per child, one jar of pizza sauce, and 1 package mozzarella cheese.

Separate bagel or English muffin. Spread each half with pizza sauce. Spread cheese on top. Bake in oven at 350 degrees until cheese is melted.

Bear Toast

Please send in 2 slices whole wheat bread or white with whole grain bread per child, honey and a bear cookie cutter. (We have some if you need them.)

Toast bread. Press bear cookie cutter into middle of toast. Top bear toast with honey.

Buddy Pudding

Please send in 4 large boxes Jell-Oinstant pudding and milk according to package directions. Also supply a large container that can be rolled across the floor. (I have one if you need one.)

Pour pudding and milk into a large container. Roll across the floor until it’s mixed. Shake if needed.

Applesauce

Please send in one Golden Delicious apple per child, a few extra apples, 1-2 cups sugar, and cinnamon.

Wash the apples and cut into pieces. Cook apples, peel, stem, core and pulp in a pan with a little bit of water. Stir through a food grinder when soft. (You may borrow mine.) Add sugar and cinnamon to taste.

Apple Slices with Dip

Please send in 1Golden Delicious apple per child and 3 – 4 oz. vanilla pudding cups, 1 small jar caramel ice cream topping, 3 tsp. vanilla, 1-8 oz. Cool Whip, thawed and 2 cups low-fat granola.

Wash and cut apple slices. Mix vanilla pudding, 1/2 c. caramel ice cream topping, and 3 tsp. vanilla together. Fold in 3/4 container thawed Cool Whip. Dip apple slices first in caramel dip and then in granola.

Pumpkin Pie

Please send in canned pumpkin and ingredients necessary to complete the recipe for 4 pies. (See the can for details.) Be sure to send in 4pastry pie crusts. (You can get frozen ones if you’d like.) Whipped topping would be a nice extra!

Mix pumpkin pie according to the directions on the can. Pour into the pie crusts and bake as directed.

Baked Pumpkin Seeds

Please send in one pumpkin the day before cook day so that we can pull the seeds out in class. Then please bring seeds from another pumpkin or two that you dried at home on cooking day. Also send in olive oil and salt. (Did you know that the more lines there are on a pumpkin the more seeds are in the pumpkin?

Gut the pumpkin and remove the seeds. Wash and lay out on paper towel to dry for one day. Add the following per 2 cups of washed pumpkin seeds – 2 tbsp. olive oil and 1 ½ tsp. salt.

Mix oil and salt with seeds. Bake on cookie sheet about 40 minutes in a 250 degree oven. (Can salt lightly after cooking.)

Corn Bread Muffins

Please send in 4 packages of Jiffy corn muffin mix, 4 eggs and

1 1/3 cup of milk. Please also bring muffin papers and muffin pans.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees and spray a muffin pan with baking spray or use muffin papers.

In a bowl, thoroughly combine all ingredients. Fill the prepared muffin cups with batter, and bake 18-20 minutes.

Applesauce with Crispy Scoops

Please send in one applesauce container per child and ½ - 7 or 8 “tortilla per child, ½ cup sugar and 2 tsp. cinnamon. Also, send in one can cooking spray.

Cut each tortilla into 8 wedges. Place on an ungreased baking sheet. Generously coat tortilla wedges with cooking spray. Mix cinnamon and sugar together. Sprinkle over tortilla wedges. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 7 to 9 minutes or until light brown. Cool completely on a wire rack.

Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins – Eggless Version 

The following recipe makes 12 muffins. (Bring enough to make 3 batches) Also bring paper muffin cups and muffins pans.

2 medium bananas, mashed

2 tbsp. water

½ c. margarine, melted

¼ c. buttermilk

2 c. flour

2/3 c. sugar

1 ½ tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. baking soda

¼ tsp. salt

½ c. mini chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray muffin pan with baking spray or use muffin papers.

Combine the mashed banana, water, melted margarine and buttermilk until well blended.

In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder and baking soda with a wire whisk. Add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture and mix well. Stir in the mini chocolate chips, and divide the batter evenly among the prepared muffin cups.

Bake 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Hot Cocoa

Please send in hot cocoa mix – enough for each child to have one cup. You may also send in marshmallows or small candy canes if you wish.

Make the cocoa according to package directions. Add marshmallows or candy canes as desired.

Gingerbread Cookies (It’s not healthy, but it’s Christmas!)

Please send in pre-mixed gingerbread cookies, flour and a gingerbread cookie cutter. Also, please send in 2 cans of white frosting and a variety of decorations – raisins, chocolate chips, sprinkles, etc.

Roll the dough, cut the cookies and decorate as desired

Easy Cookie Icing

1 c. confectioner’s sugar

1 tsp. vanilla

1-2 tbsp. milk

Combine the sugar, vanilla and milk with a small whisk.

Rainbow Parfait

Please send in enough yogurt for each child to have approximately ½ c. Also send in 2 kinds of fruit to compliment the yogurt and one box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch or Lucky Charms (General Mills). A clear cup is helpful with this recipe.

Put 2 spoons of yogurt in a cup. Add one spoonful of cereal. Add 2 spoonfuls of fruit #1 and 2 spoonfuls of fruit #2. Add 2 spoonfuls of yogurt. Top with cereal.

Turkey Snowflakes

Please send in 2 round turkey slices per child. Be sure that the turkey is “all natural”.

Fold the turkey in half and then in half again. Nibble bites on all sides. Open and see the snowflake.

Pancakes

Please send in pancake mix with necessary ingredients. Please send enough that each child can have 2 or more pancakes.

Please provide syrup and/or butter, cinnamon & sugar also.

Preheat a cast-iron griddle or non-stick pan until hot.

Spray the griddle liberally with cooking spray (repeat this process each time you put down a new pool of batter). Pour about ¼ c. of batter onto the heated griddle and cook until small bubbles start to form on top. Flip and cook the other side until light brown.

Peaches and Frozen Yogurt

Please send in canned peach halves (in their own juice) – one half per child, 1 ½ gallons frozen vanilla yogurt.

Give each child one peach half and put a scoop of frozen yogurt in the middle.

Snow Cones

Please send in 2 bags of ice, 2 cans frozen grape juice concentrate.

Shave ice using a snow cone machine or a blender. Put shaved ice in cups. Pour juice concentrate onto ice. (I currently do not have a working blender. Sorry!)

Soup

Please send in 4 large cans of chicken broth, 2-3 cooked chicken breasts, 2 cups uncooked noodles, 3 carrots, 1 stalk celery.

Heat the chicken broth, add noodles, chicken, cut-up carrots and celery. Cook until noodles and vegetables are tender.

Dreamy Orange Cheesecake Dip

Please send in 3 pkgs. (16 oz.) cream cheese, softened, 1 1/2 cups orange marmalade, 1 1/2 tsp. Vanilla, 3 cups whole strawberries, 3 cups cantaloupe chunks and 3 cups apple slices (or other fruits in season).

Combine cream cheese, marmalade and vanilla in a small bowl; mix well. Dip fruit as desired. (Dip may be prepared ahead of time. Store, covered, in refrigerator for up to 2 days.)

Salad Bar

Please send in shredded lettuce, shredded carrots, sliced cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, grated cheese and any other vegetables that you would find on a salad bar (broccoli, cauliflower, celery, etc.) Also send in 2 or 3 kinds of salad dressing – ranch, Catalina, Italian, etc.

Let children assemble their own salad.

Cookie Sandwiches

Please send in 2 boxes of Vanilla wafers, 2 large containers of whipped cream cheese and 1 large jar of strawberry jam.

Spread cream cheese on one vanilla wafer, strawberry jam on the other and squeeze gently together.

Dinosaur Dip

Please send in 2 c. sour cream, 2c. yogurt and 2 package dry ranch salad dressing mix. Also send in a variety of vegetables to dip – carrots, celery, cucumbers, etc.

Mix the ingredients together. Refrigerate for ½ hour. Serve with vegetables as a dip.

French Toast

Please send in two slices bread per child, 12 eggs, vanilla, one quart milk, oil for cooking. Syrup or cinnamon sugar may be brought also.

Mix together eggs, vanilla and milk. Dip bread into the egg mixture and cook on a griddle until brown. Drizzle with syrup or cinnamon sugar.

Green Food Buffet

Please provide a variety of green foods for the children to try.

Some suggestions are: grapes, pickles, olives, lettuce, kiwi, green apples, celery, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, green beans, spinach, lima beans. Please avoid all dyed foods – keep to the natural green things that God made.

Cinnamon Bread – Eggless version 

The following makes one loaf. Please provide enough to make 4 loaves.

¼ c. shortening

¾ c. sugar

2 tbsp. water

2 c. flour

1 tbsp. baking powder

1 ½ tsp. cinnamon

¾ tsp. salt

1 c. milk

Topping

2 tsp. cinnamon

½ c. sugar

2 tsp. melted margarine

Preheat oven to 375 degrees and spray a loaf pan with cooking spray.

In a bowl, cream together the shortening and ¾ cup sugar thoroughly, adding the water slowly. Beat until fluffy! (May use a hand mixer if you choose.)

In a separate bowl, mix together the remaining dry ingredients – flour, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Add the dry mixture to the shortening mixture, alternating with the milk.

In a separate bowl, mix together the 2 tsp. cinnamon, ½ c. sugar and the margarine to make the topping.

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle the batter with the topping mixture. Bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean and the topping is crusty brown.

Cool 10 minutes before slicing.

Jesus Pizza

Please send in 4 loaves frozen bread dough, thawed, 2 cans pizza sauce, 2 pkg. Pepperoni and 4-8 oz. Pkgs. grated mozzarella cheese (or any pizza cheese)

(Nino’s also sells pizza dough, pre-made.)

Roll out the thawed bread dough into a heart shaped pizza. The heart represents God’s great love for us. Spread pizza sauce on the pizza. The red stands for the blood that was shed by Jesus. Sprinkle cheese over the sauce. The white represents forgiveness of sins. Place pepperoni in the shape of a cross and remember what Jesus has done for us. Bake at 350 degrees until golden.

He’s Alive Buns (I know this one is not healthy, but it’s cool!)

Please send in 4 pkgs. Pillsbury refrigerator biscuits, one large marshmallow per child, 2 sticks butter, 1 cup cinnamon/sugar mixture.

Wrap one biscuit around 1 marshmallow, dip in butter and roll in cinnamon and sugar mixture. Bake as directed on the refrigerator biscuit package. The marshmallow will melt and the biscuit will be hollow inside when done. This reminds us that Jesus was in the grave, but on Easter morning, it was empty!

Fresh Fruit Salad

Please send in a variety of fresh fruits.

As much as possible, let the children cut the fruit themselves and mix it together.

Sweet Bagel Chips

Please send in 10 unsliced bagels, a small container of butter/margarine, ½ cup cinnamon/sugar mixture.

Refrigerate bagels for at least one hour. Cut into ¼” slices. Place on an ungreased baking sheet. Brush butter over bagel slices, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture. Bake at 325 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until lightly browned. Cook on a wire rack. Store in an airtight container.

Soft Dough Pretzels

Please send in 4 loaves unbaked bread dough, thawed completely. Also send in 6 eggs, 2 cups flour and coarse (kosher) salt. Foil would also be helpful.

Divide dough into pieces and have children shape them into 12 inch ropes. Shape as pretzels and put on foil covered cookie sheets. Beat egg whites and 6 tablespoons water until well blended. Coat dough with egg mixture and sprinkle with salt. Bake in preheated 400 degree oven for 20 minutes. Remove from cookie sheets and cool on wire racks.

Rainbow Chips and Salsa

Please provide 2-3 red pepper, 2-3 spinach and 2-3 whole wheat tortillas (1/2 tortilla per child) and 2 jars of mild all natural salsa. (The colors make them more fun!)

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Cut the tortillas into wedges, strips or rounds. Arrange tortillas in a single layer on a large baking sheet. Light coat with vegetable cooking spray. Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown and crisp. Set aside to cool. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Tacos

Please send in 2 pounds ground turkey, taco seasoning mix, taco shells (one per child), shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese and taco sauce (optional). (Please pre-cook the meat before coming to school.)

Brown turkey; mix in taco seasoning and water. Bring to a boil and simmer 10 minutes. Heat taco shells in 350 degree oven for 6-8 minutes. Fill each shell with meat, cheese and other toppings as desired.

Hard-Boiled Eggs

Please bring in 1 hard-boiled egg per child as well as a few extra. Also bring in one uncooked egg – so we can examine the difference.

Go Fishing

Please send in 1/3 cup Goldfish crackers per child, 1 large bag pretzel sticks, 2 tbsp. cream cheese per child. Small clear cups would be helpful.

Put the cream cheese and pretzels on a plate, goldfish in a clear cup. The children dip a fishing pole (pretzel) in the cream cheese and “catch” a fish with it.

Remember: You need to bring everything that we need to make the recipe – food, bowls, utensils, etc. However, we do have a variety of things in the classroom, so if you don’t have something, you can check with us. 
