NATURE’S SEEDLINGS A MONTHLY NATURE DISCOVER PROGRAM –DISAPPEARING FROGS

Nature’s Seedlings is a monthly nature discovery program for ages 3 to 7 being held every third Friday of the month. Explore the world of nature through games, exploration, interaction and crafts.

March’s program will beThe Disappearing Frog. Children will learn about frogs in North Carolina and why some of the frogs are disappearing and what we can do to help save the frogs. Lots of frog activities will be on tap for the morning with live frogs, frog crafts, a frog interactive story alongwith a short hike to hear and see frogs that live at Raven Rock State Park.

Registration is not required but please notify us if you are bringing a group. Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the program. Programswill be held outside weather permitting. Meet at the Visitor Center.

DISAPPEARING FROG PROJECT ART EXHIBITION

Friday, March 25 through Saturday, April 9, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day

Disappearing Frog Project Art Exhibition Artwork celebrating amphibians is displayed inside the VisitorCenter. The exhibit will feature donated artwork from regional and local area artists, including student artwork. Enjoy a unique video capturing wildlife portraits and behaviors found in NC Longleaf pine forests. Amphibian Programming & Science Talks scheduled throughout the exhibition. Artwork is for sale, and all proceeds benefit the Amphibian Survival Alliance (ASA). Free admission.

Hop on over to Raven Rock for a morning of Froggy Fun.

Join us on the back deck of the visitor center as we read a favorite story (A Frog Thing). After the program, join us for a short, easy stroll to listen and look for frogs in the park. Program is geared for ages 3-8. While at Raven Rock, enjoy the Disappearing Frog Project frog art exhibit in the visitor center which runs from March 25 - April 9.

RAVEN ROCK TRAIL TREK

Saturday, April 9 starting at 8:30 a.m.

The Raven Rock Trail Trekis a point-to-point (100% trail) 10 mile, 5 trail, 1 day hiking endeavor, which traversesthe Raven Rock, Little Creek, Fish Traps, Campbell Creek, and Lanier Falls Trails of Raven Rock State Park. The course travels through beautiful hardwood forests and at times parallels Little Creek and Campbell Creek as well as providing views of the Cape Fear River. Campbell Creek Loop Trail is known as one of the more challenging trails at the Park. The Trekstarts and ends at the Park Pavilion. Runners are encouraged to arrive for an early start. Participants can start anytime between 8:00-9:15 am. The Raven Rock Trail Trek is put on by Friends of Raven Rock State Park for runners and hikers alike, proceeds will support Raven Rock State Park.

Participants will receive a Trail Trek t-shirt, trail map, post-hike lunch of sandwiches, fruit and bottled water, and safety sweeps of the trails during the event.

Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be well-socialized with humans and other dogs and must be kept on 6 ft. or shorter leash at all times.

Registration will open SundayMarch 1st 2015. You mayregister onlineand pay with PayPal ordownload and fill-in the online form, print it and mail it in your check. Printed forms may also be obtained at the Park’s Visitor Center. The advanced registration fee is $25.00 and closes on April 5th 2016. Online late registration will be $35. As of April 8th, race-day registration will be available for $25. For late or event-day registrations, t-shirts may have to be picked up at a later date at the park office.

RAVEN ROCK CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION EVENT

Saturday, April 9 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On April 9th, Raven Rock State Park will be having a Big Celebration for 100 years in NC State Parks. The event will start off at 8:30 a.m. with theRaven Rock Trail Trek, a 10 mile, hiking challenge using 5 different hiking trails. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., we will have the Centennial Party at the Visitor Center. This will be the final day for theDisappearing Frog Projectexhibit, an amphibian related art exhibit that helps create awareness for the decline of amphibians worldwide through theAmphibian Survival Alliance. We will also be celebrating Earth Day with educational exhibits, farmers, live honeybees, birds of prey, conservation and environmental exhibitors and much more. Several nature-oriented and art exhibitors are planning to attend. Live music byMidlife Crisis. Professional artist and author,Bob Palmatier, is scheduled to attend and will be teaching small art classes throughout the day. This day is currently being sponsored by theFriends of Raven Rockand theFriends of State Parks.
