Native American Unit Final Test Study Guide

In preparation for the Native American Final Test students should:

**Be familiar with the definitions for the vocabulary words in chapter 2 of their social studies book and from the Dakota/Ojibwe study guides that were handed out. Much of the test will be vocabulary matching/fill in the blank.

**Know some of the characteristics of the Adena and Hopewell civilizations. There will be a multiple choice question about this topic.

**Know about the Comanche civilization. There will be a few multiple choice questions on this topic.

**Know about the Southwest civilizations especially the Pueblo, and Hopi. Also know about the topic of irrigation and what its definition is. There will be some multiple choice/matching questions on this topic.

**Know about the civilizations from the Pacific Northwest, what their main natural resources were, and how they used the land. Multiple choice questions about this topic.

**Know about how the first Americans came to North America, what they did for food, and what Beringia was. Some multiple choice, fill in the blank questions on this topic.

**Know about the civilizations of the Great Plains and the differences between the eastern/western plains. Some multiple choice questions on this topic.

**Know about the Eastern woodland tribes and who chose the chiefs of the Haudenonsaunee League. There will be some matching, multiple choice questions about this topic.

**Know what the Dakota tribe did during each of the four seasons. There will be matching questions about this topic.

**Know what oral tradition is and the purpose for oral tradition. There will be some short answer questions on this topic.

**Know what the Ojibwe and Dakota gained in the peace treaty of 1679. There will be a short answer question on this topic.

**Know the procedures that the Dakota used for harvesting wild rice and making syrup from maple tree sap. Students will have to put these steps in order.

**Know the similarities and differences between the Dakota and Ojibwe. Students will have to compare/contrast the two tribes on the test.
