National Workshop on Nano Drug Delivery Techniques

A National workshop on Nano Drug Delivery Technique was organized by the Department of Pharmaceutics, PSGCP on the 27th April-2012. The chief guest for the workshop was Dr. D Magalaraj, Professor, Head Department of Nanoscience and Technology, Bharathiar University Coimbatore. During the forenoon session, four speakers from reputed institutions delivered valuable talks. In the afternoon session, demonstrations on TEM, AFM, Malvern zetasizer, and High speed homogenizer were conducted. Nearly fifty participants were attended the workshop. During the valedictory function, two PSGCP M.Pharm theses were awarded with the Sangrose –PSG Pharma Best thesis award.

National Workshop on In-silico Drug Discovery and Lead Optimization

A 3-day national workshop on In-silico Drug Delivery and Lead Optimization was conducted by the Department of Pharmacology, PSGCP from the 24th-26th of May 2012. All participants were given hands-on training with the latest computational techniques available for Drug Design.

National Conference on Experimental Pharmacology & Drug Evaluation

The Pharmacology Department of PSGCP hosted a 2-day National Conference on Experimental Pharmacology & Drug Evaluation from the 7th – 8th of June 2012. Dr. P Ram Manohar, President, Arya Vaidhya Nilayam, Madurai, presided as the Chief Speaker on this occasion and delivered the key address on this occasion.

Workshop on Good Dispensing Practice

The Department of Pharmacy Practice, PSGCP organized a workshopon Good Dispensing Practice at the PSG Hospital on the 12th of June 2012. This Work shop was aimed to educate the Community Pharmacist about recent trends in the field of Management of Dispensing and Medication Errors, Importance of Cold Chain Storage Systems, and Ethics of Pharmacy Practice. More than 50 Pharmacists from various Community Pharmacies in Coimbatore, participated in this workshop. Mr. T. Tamilselvan, Assistant Professor, PSG college of Pharmacy, Mr. A. Justin, Assistant Professor, PSG college of Pharmacy, spoke at this workshop. The valedictory function was presided over by Dr. M. Ramanathan, Principal, PSGCP. Dr. Vimal Kumar Govindan, Medical Director, PSG Hospitals felicitated the occasion. Mr. Marimuthu, Drug Inspector, South Coimbatore, distributed certificates to the participants.

National level Conference onBioanalytical Techniques

The PSG College of Pharmacy organized a National level Conference onBIOANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES from the 30th November to 1st December 2012. The conference was sponsored by DRDO, New Delhi & organized by Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, PSG College of Pharmacy. Dr.DineshPalanivelu, Associate Scientific Manager II, Biocon Research Limited, Bangalore was the chief guest for this conference. About 50 delegates from various regions actively participated in this conference. Along with scientific oral sessions and workshops, hands on training in HPLC, HPTLC and UPLC were conducted in this conference.

One day workshop on Industry-Student Interaction

The Indian Pharmaceutical Association Tamil Nadu branch (TANIPA), in conjunction with PSG College of Pharmacy (PSGCP) conducted a one day workshop on Industry-Student Interaction held at PSGCP on the 2nd of March 2013. The Tamilnadu State Drug Controller, Mr. Selvaraj, visited PSGCP and interacted on the latest amendments of the Drugs & Cosmetic Act 1948.

The objective of this workshop was to create a platform where the students of the various pharmacy colleges could directly interact with stalwarts and experts from the pharmaceutical industry and get a good idea regarding the requirements for a flourishing career. At the same time, the industry too would get an opportunity to feel the current pulse of the students and explore for potential manpower for its future requirements.

Ninety five delegates from a total of seven pharmacy colleges participated in this workshop. The participating colleges were PSG College of Pharmacy (PSGCP), College of Pharmacy, Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Paramedical Sciences (SRIPMS), KMCH College of Pharmacy (KMCHCP), Karpagam College of Pharmacy (KarpagamCP), Cherran’s College of Pharmacy (CheranCP), College of Pharmacy, Coimbatore Medical College (CMC), and Vinayaka Missions College of Pharmacy (Vinayaka MissionsCP).

Molecular Modeling and Drug Discovery - Workshop II

The Department of Pharmacology organized a workshop entitled "Molecular Modeling and Drug Discovery - Workshop II" on 10th-12th July, 2013. The workshop had 20 participants from different institutions and a host of eminent speakers: Dr. M. Ramanathan, Principal, PSG CP, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Bioinformatics, Alagappa University,Dr. D. Velmurugan, Professor and Head, Department of Crystallography and Biophysics, Madras University, Dr. Ravi Kumar Muttineni, Senior Application Scientist, Schrodinger, and Dr. Ramanathan Natarajan, Research Head, VKA Polymers.During the workshop the participants were given hands on experience in QSAR, Pharmacophore identification, and use of docking tools from Schrodinger software.

A National level seminar on widening the horizons for Practicing Pharmacists in Industries and hospitals

A National level seminar on widening the horizons for Practicing Pharmacists in Industries and hospitals organized by the department of pharmacy practice, PSG College of pharmacy, co-sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi and The Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, was conducted on 5-6 July 2013. The symposium was inaugurated by Mr. Prafull D. Sheth, Vice President and Founder of FIP and who is also a mentor of SEARPharm Forum: a FIP-WHO forum of national associations of South East Asia. This was followed by his talk on the challenges for Practicing Pharmacists in counterfeit drugs in India.
