ACCOUNTABLE TO: DAM UK COUNCIL OF MANAGEMENT

Line managed by their nominated trustee

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

As the charity’s first full-time worker to establish a UK office in Warwick in shared premises already secured, and to undertake the tasks and responsibilities set out below in line with the wishes of DAM UK’s Council of Management and in collaboration with the charity’s trustees, volunteers and partners.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supporting the work of the DAM UK Council of Management in achieving the charity’s main objectives and being accountable to it;
  • Working with the trustees to develop further DAM UK’s capacity to raise funding and support for the work and operations of DAM Bangladesh. This includes fund raising to meet agreed targets including covering the costs of resources for the DAM UK office and staffing costs;
  • Establishing the office in Warwick in conjunction with the trustees, setting up efficient and effective management system for the charity’s responsibilities and business;
  • Maintaining good relationships with the our hosts Education for Health owners of the office building and seeking opportunities to work more closely and collaboratively with them;
  • Working closely with DAM UK’s current fund-raising co-ordinator to take on agreed fundraising roles including seeking new donors and sources of funding, liaison with major donors and meeting reporting requirements;
  • Identifying potential new funding sources, multilateral, governmental and voluntary;
  • Making funding applications to new donors;
  • Establishing a good and practical relationship with key staff in DAM Bangladesh
  • Making or organising monitoring visits to DAM Bangladesh on a yearly basis, particularly to oversee the Comic Relief funded work, but also monitoring all projects funded through DAM UK;
  • Editing project proposals and budgets received from DAM Bangladesh and putting them in a format suitable for possible donors in UK and Europe;
  • Networking with agreed UK bodies and umbrella organisations in pursuit of DAM UK’s objectives;
  • Ensuring that progress and outcome reports are sent on a regular basis to donors. In most cases this is on a once a year basis but more often if the donor requests this;
  • Managing correspondence with donors and our delivery partner organisation DAM Bangladesh;
  • Helping to develop further and to add to DAM UK’s detailed system of donors and potential donors;
  • Taking on some of the charity’s reporting responsibilitiesincluding keeping contact data up to date; this may, in the future involve, involve assisting in setting up and maintaining records in a new customer relationship management system;
  • Assisting with updating the charity’s website and / or social media with news and events related to fundraising;
  • Attending DAM UK Council of Management meetings (3 times a year) and providing fund-raising and financial reports in a timely manner;
  • Preparing and distributingthe Annual Report in conjunction with the trustees;
  • Identifying,recruiting and managing new volunteers;
  • Liaising and working with DAM UK’s Treasurer and with the trustee who voluntarily co-ordinates current fundraising and the day-to-day income and expenditure transactions;

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential requirements:

  • Enthusiasm for international development and charity fundraising;
  • Ability and desire to learn about community-led, integrated development;
  • Grant management skills, including proposal writing, reporting to funders, monitoring and budget management;
  • Demonstrable track record in fund raising ;
  • The ability to be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of DAM UK and DAM Bangladesh;
  • Flexibility for UK travel to meet trustees and donors and for international travel to assess and support overseas projects;
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team in shared office space and form good working relationships with DAM UK trustees and volunteers and with staff from our partner organisations;
  • A self-starter, able to work independently, with a commitment to working efficiently and to a high standard;
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills;
  • Strong organisational and planning skills. Ability to prioritise a wide range of tasks and manage time effectively;
  • Proven administrative skills with real attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Computer skills and experience of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel;
  • Good numerical and analytical skills to degree level or equivalent experience;
  • Ability to organise and manage small numbers of volunteer help;
  • Some of the Charity’s development work involves children and a DBS check will be required

Desired(but not essential) requirements:

  • International development or marketing or charity sector or equivalent experience;
  • Experience of living or working in Bangladesh or working with Bangladeshi organisations
  • Experience of being a volunteer or managing volunteers.
  • Ability to work from home on occasion

Conditions:

The successful post holder will be based in a grade 2 listed building with office space located on the first and second floor without lift access.

Initially the Employment Contract will be for one year and thereafter on a rolling one year basis subject to meeting the agreed targets set out in the contract and funding being available. There will be a probationary period of six months.

Initially the appointee will work closely with the trustee responsible for fundraising and the DAM UK Consultant as part of the introduction and training process.

We will consider a part time appointment for the right candidate.

Annual Leave entitlement – 22 days plus statutory bank holidays

SALARY: £24,000 - £27,000

HOURS: 37.5 hours per week; times to be agreed
