Elementary Learning Lab(NEW: replacing Literacy Lab this year)

- Learning Lab Purpose Statement:To provide teacher teams who have a shared goal in mind with a supportive structure for professional learning, action research and ongoing collaboration in an effort to improve teaching and learning.
- Learning Lab Teams will:
- determine a specific, measurable goal as the focus for their learning lab experience
- measure their goal over time
- step out of their classrooms to observe an authentic teaching and learning environment supportive of their goal and will participate in the Prebrief-Observation-Debrief cycle
- learn more about specific TPEP criteria and elements related to their shared goal
- create an implementation plan to work toward their goal throughout the school year
- collaborate around their goal and learning regularly (at least once every 4-6 weeks)
- reflect about their learning and transfer new learning into practice
- set a date and observe one another around work related to the shared goal
- collect, share, and analyze the data by the end of the learning lab experience
- debrief this learning experience and set goals for continued professional growth
- The Learning Lab Team’s Building Administrator will:
- participate in the Prebrief-Observation-Debrief cycle when observing the lab teacher
- Prebrief will be scheduled prior to the lab teacher observation day
- The observation and debrief will take place on the same day (1 day out of building)
- complete a practice TPEP observation of the lab teacher related to the team’s shared learning goal, calibrate scores with the lab facilitator and share the elements scored with the lab teacher and learning lab team during the debrief.
- support the learning lab team in working toward their shared goal
- participate in the end of year debrief (after school meeting following the learning lab team’s observations of each other)
- Who can apply? 2-5 Person Teacher Teams with at least one building administrator
- 2-5 classroom teachers (same common goal, not necessarily the same grade level or site)
- 1 building administrator (principal or principal assistant)
- Learning Lab Available Dates to Observe Lab Teacher
- Oct 25th, Nov 8th, Nov 15th, Nov 17th, Nov 30th, Dec 6th, or Dec 8th
- Learning Lab Team Observation of One Another Available Dates
- May 3rd, May 4th, May 18th, May 23rd, May 25th, May 31st, June 1st, or June 8th
