The Nine Weeks Honors Program has been a tremendous success. Parents have given us rave reviews about encouraging students to work hard and receiving rewards throughout the year. DSM Chemical has provided us with the incentives for this year. We also have made a big deal about attendance and therefore have a picture display by grade level of our students on the NBA (Never Been Absent). We’re seeing more students with better attendance. If you can think of incentives/awards for 2016-2017, or make contact with a sponsor, please call, bring list.
We have implemented “Shout Outs” for faculty/staff/students to lift up their spirits and keep them encouraged to perform their best and identify positive behavior. Featured Faculty/Super Staffer pictures are posted on the board in the main hall as well as Student of the Month for each grade level. We have had several sponsors to donate or sponsor the Luncheons for the students. Faculty/Staff have scheduled luncheons that encourages fellowship. Ideas for upcoming year were discussed such as finding sponsors or donations for gift cards to faculty/staff and gift certificates to restaurants to students.
We have the opportunity to get an After School Program, through Rising Stars and Ms. Leah Davis. Her name was given to me by Dr. Alexander from an announcement made for those interested in having an after school program. Ms. Davis is in the process of vetting the school for grant purposes. We are looking for additional tutors during the school day and volunteers to work in all areas of the school.
We are still encourage parent involvement. Some things that we have done are: workshops on various ways to help their child academically, such as Science Fair project, Math Night, and homework. The committee brainstormed ideas/events to do for parents to come out.
An overview of the 2015 Georgia Milestones was presented.
There were no additional Council concerns. Meeting was adjourned.
