Student Presentation Awards: In 2008the RDTSS continued the format for the student presentation awards implemented in 2006. Candidates for student awards made their presentations in a special session on Monday afternoon of the SOT annual meeting in Seattle. Vice President-elect Mark Hurtt arranged for judges of student awards to interact with the students and managed the voting process for best presentations. This year 14 students competed. Winners of cash awards this year were as follows:Jacquelin Grabowski, First Place, $500; Michele La Merrill, Second Place, $300; Elizabeth Ryan and Sally White (tie), Third Place, $100.

Student Travel Awards: $2000 was originally budgeted again this year to support student travel. The money was to be divided evenly among all students applying for the student presentation awards. Ultimately, the chapter gave $175 awards to each of the 4scientific presentation awardees listed above and also to the following additional10 contestants: Helen Badham, Chad Blystone, Mabel Cortes-Wanstreet, Rupesh Gupta, Isabel Hernandez, Kembra Howdeshell, Tessie Paulose, Stephanie Petrillo, Cynthia Rider, and Emily Tung.

The committeeselected from among the member nominations. The award can be presented for lifetime contribution to the field of reproductive and developmental toxicology, or for contribution of a particularly influential body of work. This award recipient this year was Dr. Tom Collins. Although unable to attend SOT to receive his plaque award, he had prepared an acceptance statement that was read to the membership at the annual meeting reception in Seattle.

Award for 2007 Best Paper on Reproductive and Developmental Toxicology published in Toxicological Sciences: Senior Council Jodi Flaws managed the selection of the Best Paper Award, this year resulting in a tie. Plaques were awarded to the two first authors and certificates were awarded to all co-authors. Other “top 3 finalist” certificates were also given to finalists. The twobest paper winners were as follows:

Student/Post-Doc Mixer: Junior Councilor Suzanne Fenton updated the RDTSS poster for display at this function. The remaining supply of special edition RDTSS lanyards was sufficient to give students this year. Other “freebies” will need to be re-ordered next year if the SS decides to continue this tradition.
