Differentiation for diverse learners:

Each question will be read aloud for students who have trouble reading. There is a video to connect to students in a more visual way. Also, there will be a hands on activity for students who learn best through doing kinesthetic activities.

The teacher will be enthusiastic about the topic.

The teacher will cover all the material needed to insure the student can perform the assessment.

Set Induction:
Ask the students what they believe asthma is. Explain what asthma is.
Lesson:
-Watch the video from kidshealth.org. pausing the video to review key points.
-Each student will get a straw. First the students will breathe through the straw normally. Then they will pinch the straw to demonstrate what it feels like to have asthma. Next the students will jog in place for 20 seconds and then breathe through the straw while pinching it.
-Students will complete the Asthma Crossword Puzzle.
Closure:
-The answer key will be placed on the overhead projector and the students will grade their own crossword.
-Review each term in the crossword. / -Ask the students if they have asthma or know anyone that does.
-Make sure the students are listening and watching the video. Most of the questions come from the video.
- Ask questions like “Is it more difficult to breathe through the straw when it is pinched.” “How difficult would it be to breathe during activity if you had asthma?”
