Dear Respondent,

School of Performing and Visual Arts, IGNOU has undertaken to develop a Bachelors level programme on Dance. This is being developed keeping in mind

  • the need of such a programme at the level of Bachelors
  • the need to give accreditation to the practice of traditional classical dances thereby recognizing the potential of traditional practitioners, teachers and learners.
  • to ensure the creation of a knowledge base which imbibes the best of the ‘traditional’ vis-à-vis exploration of the contemporary with a creative and innovative sensibility
  • to chart out employment opportunities to the learners
  • to offer platforms and avenues to take up serious study of Dance at Masters level.

The questionnaire provided below is for a survey conducted nationwide on the need of such a Bachelors programme on Dance. Kindly read the questions and answer them in the way that you feel is right. I would advice you to write easy and spontaneouslyas you read the questions. If you feel that expressing in English is a problem, you may write in the language of your choice. Indira Gandhi National Open University is a Central University located in New Delhi. The programmes offered by IGNOU are conducted through study centres located all over India and abroad. As IGNOU is an Open university, all the programmes are based on the model of Open and distance learning which offers the learner/ student a great level of flexibility in terms of age, counselling at a location (study centre) of choice and duration of programme. In short, the university gives priority to the learner and enables the learner to study at their convenience. The entire package of any programme also includes components of Self learning material in the form of text books, Manuals for Practicals, Audio-Video material (that can be accessed at the study centre), regular broadcast of educative programmes through Gyan Darshan I, II, Gyan Vani and Interaction and updation through satellite teleconferencing.
