Washington, DC — (February 1, 2017) The National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA) has been workingwith its state affiliates nationwide to have the first week in February proclaimed “Enrolled Agent Week.” Thus far for 2017, the following Enrolled Agent (EA) Week proclamations have been issued:
Week of February 1 Declared EA Week:
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey
Georgia Governor Nathan Deal
Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb
Kansas Governor Sam Brownback
Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards
Michigan Governor Rick Snyder
Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant
Oregon Governor Kate Brown
Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker
Ohio Governor John Kasich and Texas Governor Greg Abbott proclaimed February 5–11 Enrolled Agent Week, and Utah Governor Gary Herbert declared“Utah ID Theft Prevention Week, February 6–10, brought to you by the Great West Society of Enrolled Agents (GWSEA).”Florida Governor Rick Scott issued a letter of congratulations for Enrolled Agent Week.
“We are pleased that the Governor’s office recognizes the importance of choosing a licensed tax preparer,” said NAEA President Richard Reedman, EA, USTCP. “It’s not at all unusual for an EA to be called in after an incompetent or careless tax preparer has made mistakes on a return that triggered an IRS audit. We hope that this recognition will encourage more taxpayers to start off by hiring an EA to prepare their taxes, so they don’t end up hiring one to represent them at an audit. All enrolled agents specialize in taxation—their testing and continuing education revolves around that one subject. That’s why they’re called ‘America’s tax experts!’”
In addition to tax preparation, enrolled agents have earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the IRS in cases of audits, collections, or appeals. To find an enrolled agent in your area, go to the “Find an EA” directory at
