Museum-led Workshops – Curriculum links

The workshops’ contents will identify learning outcomesand enhance teaching taking place in school in the following areas;

Overview / Compare how servants and householders experienced life in Victorian and Edwardian homes.

Pupils should be taught to;
  • listen and respond appropriately to adults and their peers

Maths – Key Stage 1 and 2 – measurement
Pupils should be taught to;
  • measure time and sequence events in chronological order
  • recognise and use language relating to dates
  • compare and sequence intervals of time
  • compare the duration of events
Science – Key Stage 1 – Working scientifically
Pupils should be taught to;
  • ask simple questions and recognise they can be answered in different ways
  • observe closely using simple equipment
  • identify and classify
  • use their observations and ideas to suggest answers to questions
Science – Key Stage 2 – Working scientifically
Pupils should be taught to;
  • ask relevant questions and use different types of scientific enquiries to answer them
  • identify differences, similarities or changes related to simple scientific ideas and processes
  • use straightforward scientific evidence to answer questions
  • identifying scientific evidence that has been used to support or refute ideas or arguments
Science – Key Stage 1 – Everyday materials
Pupils should be taught to;
  • distinguish between an object and the material from which it is made
  • identify and name a variety of everyday materials, including wood, plastic, glass, metal, water and rock
  • describe the simple properties of a variety of everyday materials
  • compare and group together a variety of everyday materials on the basis of their simple properties
  • identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses
Science – Key Stage 2 – Properties and Changes of Materials
Pupils should be taught to;
  • compare and group together everyday materials on the basis of their properties
History – Key Stage 1
Pupils should be taught about;
  • events beyond living memory that are significant nationally or globally
  • significant historical events, people and places in their locality
  • the lives of significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements
History – Key Stage 2
Pupils should be taught about;
  • a local history study
  • a study of an aspect or theme in British history that extends pupils’ chronological knowledge beyond 1066
