  • May 19th-23rd – Children’s Book Week:
  • Monday – Stop, Drop, and Read – bring a good book
  • Tuesday – Step into Reading - Wear Silly Socks
  • Wednesday – Red to Succeed - Wear favorite college gear
  • Thursday – Reading Makes you Bright - Wear neon sunglasses (or any sunglasses)
  • Friday – Bring your Favorite Story to Life - Dress up as a favorite story book character (costumes must be in dress code; no scary costumes or masks please)
  • May 22nd– Star Lab during library
  • May 26th– Memorial Day Holiday
  • May 27th-30 – BOGO Book Fair!
  • May 29th– Pay to Play – PJ and stuffed animal day ($1 to play)
  • June 6th– Last Day of school! Early release at 12 PM
/ Homework:
  • Students will need to read and complete the “Just Right” reader . I am not sending an assignment to go with the reader. A “daily” math worksheet will be sent home to complete.
  • Students will also have Words Their Way (spelling) homework along with an assessment on Friday.
  • Students are expected to read for a minimum of 20 minutes per day.
  • All homework needs to be completed and turned in on Friday.

What are we Learning About?
  1. Reading
  • Research projects – animals, Earth topics of choosing
  • Focus on immersion, investigation, integration, and publication
  1. Writing
  • Letter Writing
  • Vocabulary – friendly letter, business letter, heading, body, closing
  • Correct punctuation, capitalization, and good spelling
  1. Math
  • Rounding to ten, getting “close to 20” by counting by multiples
  • Place value to hundreds (between 1 and 999)
  • Multiples of Ten and Ones
  • One-to-one correspondence – counting up to 120 by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s starting at any given number between 1-120.
  • Vocabulary – count on, doubles combination
4. Science – Animal interdependence, food chains, life cycles
  • Vocabulary – living, non-living, terrarium, aquarium, basic needs, interdependence, food chain, life cycle
5. Social Studies– Memorial Day / What can I do at home?
  • Reinforce what we are learning in the classroom by reading to your child and having them read daily.
  • Always practice retelling a story in the correct order and including all important details.
  • Students should be writing complete sentences that are legible and easily read, even if words are not spelled correctly.
  • Students should be sounding out unknown words while reading.
  • Complete nightly homework to extend lessons from class.
  • Use technology to make at-home learning more fun! Brain Pop, Jr., Starfall, ABC Mouse, and lots of other programs are great to keep kids engaged and learning!
