Physical Education and Health Education in grade 9 will consist of 90 consecutive days or one semester, 60 of Physical Education and 30 of Health Education. Students will begin their course of study with the Physical Education component. For students to receive full credit they MUST be dressed in appropriate exercise attire by the second day of class and be dressed in the required Spring Grove Physical Education Uniform by the start of the second cycle.

CLASS RULES Students are expected to participate, be prompt, be prepared and be polite at ALL times.

GRADES—Grades will be weighted

  • 30% Self-Discipline and Preparation—students will each start with 30 points in this category for the marking period. Coming to class prepared with the correct uniform or health materials will result in retention of all 30 points. If you are not wearing any part of the uniform (shirt, short, shoe) or you forgot your health materials, you lose 1 point for that period. This includes wearing the incorrect uniform. Students losing points in the category cannot make them up, it is only a deduct category.(Note: If alternate exercise clothing are worn for class, you will lose a point in this category but can still participate in class.)
  • 70% Performance— Students will earn points for each unit under one of the following categories.

-Skills demonstration—warm-up, skill demo, game leader, etc.

-Knowledge demonstration—test, quiz, journal assessment

-Cooperative, Collaborative play—team building, respect, good sportsmanship, following directions

-Participation in Health HR Zone—3 pt 88-96% of class time, 2 pt 75-88, 1 pt 0-74

-Students can earn performance points as long as they are prepared for exercise.

  • Students can earn performance points as long as they are prepared for exercise. Students who do not participate in a class will be deducted points from their self-discipline category and from their performance grade. Performance grades can be made up with the discretion of a student’s teacher.

P.E. UNIFORM: Cash OR checks made payable to SGHS.

  • Spring Grove P.E. uniforms MUST be worn for class.

$8 shorts (navy blue S.G.P.E. Logo shorts)

$4 shirt (gray S.G. P.E. Logo shirt)

$5 mesh bag(optional)

  • Socks and Athletic Shoes of your choice. Athletic shoes consist of non-marking, rubber soles that have LACES to secure them to your feet. Sandals, boots, moccasins, “vans”, casual leather shoes are not acceptable.
  • Blue or Gray sweats/running pants may be used during activities, each should be worn overtop the required SG uniform. Flannel pants, boxer shorts, jeans, kakis, etc. will not be acceptable clothing for class. Students should contact their instructor if they have any questions before you wear it.

-If you do not dress in your PE uniform or an alternative change of clothes, you will not be permitted to participate in class and will lose all points for the day (-1 preparation point & -3 performance points).

-Failure to change your clothes for PE class 3 times will result in a lunch detention, 4 or more times will result in a referral for insubordination.

-PE uniforms MAY NOT be worn over top of your school clothes.

ATTENDANCE

  • No more than 2 classes per marking periodmay be missed without resulting in lost points. Should a student miss more than 2 classes for any reason they must contact their instructor to schedule a class makeup time. Any testing missed must be made up no matter how many absences have occurred.
  • Students will have 2 weeks to makeup missed class time or forfeit the possibility of making up class time. Students involved in extracurricular activities may schedule a makeup time outside this grace period, but must see their instructor to do so during the 2 week period.

MEDICAL EXUSES / PARENTAL EXCUSES

  • Students should always come prepared with their complete uniform to participate in class activities whether they have a note or not. Students will be awarded preparation points even if they cannot participate due to a medical condition or injury. Students with an excuse note should present the excuse note to a locker room supervisor immediately on their arrival to class.
  • Should you need any type of medical adaptations for class, a doctor’s note explaining your limitations MUST be given to your teacher.
  • Notes for piercings, tattoos, etc… will not be excused, students will be required to use the period as a cardiovascular period by participating in prescribed jogging.
  • Medical notes involving extended absences may result in a change to adaptive physical education. Parents should contact their child’s guidance counselor should they feel their child qualifies.

CLASS PROCEDURES

  • Enter the locker room prior to the bell.
  • Get dressed quickly and wait inside the locker room until you are directed to enter the gym.
  • Sit alphabetically in your assigned squads while the teacher takes attendance and gives the directives for the day.
  • Complete the assigned warm-up
  • Be respectful, follow directions, and participate in class to the best of your ability.
  • Do NOT touch any equipment until instructed by a teacher.
  • At the end of class, gather around the teacher for a closure activity.
  • Report to the locker rooms when directed by the teacher.
  • Remain in the locker room until the bell rings.
  • Should you need to leave class for any reason, respectfully ask permission from the teacher. Leaving class without permission will result in a disciplinary referral.
  • FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE PROCEDURESWILL RESULT IN A GRADE DEDUCTION FOR THE DAY AND POTENTIALLY A PHONE CALL HOME, A LUNCH DETENTION, A REFERRAL.

LOCKER ROOM POLICY

  • Don’t Bring Valuables
  • Doors will be locked during the period
  • You cannot leave anything in my office for safe keeping
  • We are not responsible for anything that is lost or stolen in the locker room

ELECTRONICS POLICY

  • No electronic devices unless directed by a teacher. No Warnings. After School Detention will be assigned.

  • As high school students, all Spring Grove students are expected to maintain self-Discipline and Self-Control before, during, and after class. Any horseplay, hazing, profanity or violation of the school discipline code will result in parental contact and disciplinary action from the school administration. Student behavior that threatens the safety of others in the class will result in the students’ removal from said activity and parental contact.

Health Eduction-30 days (Room 314)

Students will be provided a more detailed syllabus of class procedures during their first health class meeting. Grade 9 Health Education is designed to help students develop Healthy Lifestyles through positive health choices. Units include: Stress Management, Suicide Prevention, Nutrition, and Anatomy.
