Finals Event stock –review bids – budget for stock
Mike F. reports he spoke with Arlan Brooks and he is willing to bid the finals. He said it would be similar to what he did last year. 18 calves for perf and slack vs. 1 per person. Last year his bid was $4500 with jacket and hotel, Mike does not know if the cost would be the same, but the set up of animals would be the same. Mike thinks there was 1 extra animal for perf. And use same animals for slack and perf. Shawn reports last meeting the thought was we would try and get one animal per contestant if the budget would allow this. Jojo reports the timed event was budgeted last year at $3500, and this year we budget at $5000. Brett reports he has a $2500 bid for 1 animal per contestant in TR and SW from Grant Keller out of Iowa. Bubel was not able to place a bid due to the dates. Jojo reports her and Jeremy placed a bid for $3500 for 8-9 head per event, if they would bring a full 16 head the bid is $5000 for each event. The CR and O40 CR would be the same pen, the rest would be separate. Dustin feels there should be a separate pen for the CR and O40CR. Mike G feels from the finals perspective we need 2 pens, one for CR and one for O40. Brad reports he spoke with Jeremy this am and he said there would be enough calves so you do not have to run them down during perf. Jojo said 18 calves for CR and O40 CR, and 9 for TR, SW, and Breakaway. Brett reports he thought we were going to seek one animal per contestant. Katie wonders how even of a pen you will have with 15 different animals. Mike reports the reason for the 15 head is so everyone has a first run on the cattle. Katie asked Scott if he would bring enough bucking horses so there is 1 per each contestant and he said yes. Jojo clarified the bid for her and Jeremy at 9 head per event for $3500, and the $5000 bid was for 16 per event except there would be 9 in CR and 9 in O40 CR. Shawn asked what it would cost to get 16 per event. Brett asked if there was not a possibility of getting a total of 16 per event what if we had the O40 ride in perf one day and the CR rope in perf the other day. Mike said the O40 CR is not as good of a show as open CR. Mike suggested we talk with the contestants. Jody reports running the calves in 2 rounds does not seem like that many runs on the calves. Brett reports the bid he got out of Iowa is for $2500 for the steers one per man. Shawn said we need to get a bid for the calves in soon. Continued general discussion on if we would take 9 per event or 16. Emmett suggested we vote which way we want to go. Mike F suggested and Jody agreed we stick with 9 CR calves and 9 for O40 CR, it seemed to be good last year, and the CR did not complain about this. Scott said we know both bids have ability of 9 calves each, what about working together with Arlan and Jeremy to work together to get a bid for 16 calves per event. Scott clarified to get an even pen we could have Arlan have a pen for one event and Jeremy for the other event to ensure evenness of the pen. Katie feels this may be over our budget. Mike F. again said last year the 9 per pen was good. Brett clarified yes that works because they can break in their calves prior to the finals and the steers come different. Jody said if we go with Jeremy’s bid the steers will be roped, Brad responded they will be roped and thrown down but not have went to rodeo. Dustin also reports we should go with 9 through Jeremy because they will be the most seasoned and our feed bill will be less. Jody feels we should let Jeremy call Arlan and see what they can do, if not then we will need to decrease to 9 per event. Final deadline will be a special timed event cattle meeting on the 29th @ 7:00. Let Jeremy and Arlan talk and see if they can get a bid together for 16 per event. The steer will be prepared as he is putting on a clinic.
Awards: Jill Scott, Alicia Mengelkoch, Jojo Varner
Review Mortenson we can get buckles for $125 and A Cut Above we can get some from $135. Katie felt A Cut Above was a great company to work with. Jojo also said she just ordered some and it is a 6 week turn around time.
Emmett MM to go with A Cut Above, Katie 2nd it. Motion Carried.
Jill suggested we do something for the 20th year for the logo on the jacket; Jojo will get ideas from embroidery.
Fundraising: Shawn Manee, JoJo Wagner, Emmett Davis, Alicia Mengelkoch, Jill Scott, Katie Pitzen
Reviewed status of Raffle prizes. Jill contacted Bemidji Sports and Mike is to be looking into the gun. Shawn needs to sign and send the permit application to Jill.

So far we are under budget for finals per Mike and Jojo.

Next meeting Jill to add what positions will be open
Rules and Bylaws: Shawn Manee, Greg Caron, Jill Scott, Sharon Munn, Katie Pitzen, Scott Berends
The day money rule that was to be adjusted will be discussed at next meeting.
Finals: Mike Grinager, Shawn Manee, Jill Scott, Mike Filkouski, Alicia Mengelkoch, Jojo Wagner
Sanford Center asked if there would be any contestants willing and able to go to the boys and girls club while in Bemidji to show the community some support of our organization.
Alicia would like Jill to find out a date and what exactly they would like them to do, as they are trying to plan some queen contestant events.
Will the MRA be covering stalls for Pickup men, and judges for the finals?
Brett suggested the judge line up a horse, Jill will check with Sam on if he will bring a horse. Scott said he and Mark can put them in a back pen if needed.
General discussion on last year’s schedule or if we will change anything on the schedule. Suggestion to move slack at 2pm, however it cutes cattle prep time. Suggestion of Sanford Center to possibly move the performance back a ½ hour, and other general discussion about schedule. Suggestion of switching the membership meeting and queen’s contest. Mike is going to check if they need the intermission and length of intermission. Scott also reports they used the intermission for loading bulls due to the one door. They at least need a 10-15 min act there to load bulls. Emmett suggested the contestants get out there and meet people and visit the vendors.
Old Business:
Mike G asked about the sanction fee split for the Grand Forks Rodeo, Jill reviewed bid, no added sanction, still at 3% LSRA and MRA.
New Business:
Sioux Falls Rodeo
A few things to consider with this approval: (Jojo)
They want MRA to contribute $100 per MRA event for added money ($900)
They also want MRA to do a membership drive at the rodeo that weekend
Jojo reviewed her conversation with SDRA president. Reviewed the request for added money. Emmett asked a few questions to clarify. Each association is adding money per each event they offer. So MRA would not contribute to Mixed Team Roping, or Goat Tying because we do not offer them, but the other associations do so they would contribute to the added money. Our general sanction from SDRA is about $500 per rodeo, so we are looking at a possible $400 loss by adding the money. We may get some new members out of the rodeo and that would be beneficial to our membership building. Thoughts on possibly getting a few rough stock riders as well. Brett MM to approve the Sioux Falls Rodeo, Emmett 2nd. Motion Carried.

If we do the membership drive at Sioux Falls – would we allow Grand Forks Rodeo card to be purchased and points to count at that rodeo as well? Thoughts are we need to allow at both being they are the same weekend.
Jojo reports a membership drive would sell memberships at the rodeo and be active that date so points would count for that rodeo. Scott feels if we sell a membership at the rodeo we could get more memberships. Mike G feels we used to sell at Henderson Rodeo and the points counted. Shawn reports if we do a membership drive it would be against the rule book as the points according to the rule book would not count. We can make the exception for this weekend and for the membership drive. Emmett suggested we work with the SDRA and offer a discount on an MRA card if they buy both. Noted a MN resident cannot buy a SDRA card. Idea’s on who will sell cards, suggestion on the Queen selling cards at the SDRA rodeo in her queen attire. Lacey said she will do it. Suggestion on only letting new memberships be purchased at the membership drive otherwise you will have 150 old members bringing their paperwork to the rodeo and not getting it in prior. Mike MM to only let new membership cards be purchased at the membership drive and let points count for that rodeo. Brad 2nd it. Motion Carried.
If we do membership drive – members under 18 yo need notary and parent signature to purchase card? How is this handled at an onsite card buy? Mike reports when they did it at Henderson they took a copy of Application and took money and asked them to send it in notarized.
Emmett reports Estelline and Britton will be combined this year for a double diamond deal.
