Moving from Substitution to Augmentation

Action Statements:

  1. All students will receive explicit instruction on effective search techniques and evaluation strategies prior to and during inquiry projects; including the use of division-provided online resources.
  2. Our school will move away from full class use of programmed learning tools such as Raz Kids or Mathletics. We will work with the Language & Literacy and Math Consultant to develop other classroom strategies and to understand how to use programmed learning tools to differentiate learning for specific students.
  3. Students in our school will be taught and have authentic opportunities to use the word processing skills as outlined in theLiving Sky School Division’s Word Processing Skill Set.
  4. Assessment options will ensure that all students will have opportunities to create and edit stories/information using computer-based tools such as Windows Movie Maker, PhotoStory, GarageBand, iMovie, etc)
  5. To support our school’s writing goal all of our students will blog within a ‘closed garden’ setting; writing posts, adding media and uploading files.
  6. Students will use digital tools such as Google Forms and Sheets to collect and analyze data to meet outcomes in science and social studies.

Moving from Augmentation to Modification

Action Statements:

  1. Technology and social media will be an integral part of all students’ self-determined inquiry. Teachersand students will filter information using rss, hashtags and social curation.Teachers will use their networked connections to help students collaborate and create with students, teachers and experts beyond the classroom.Teachers and students will share the process and products of their learning with a global audience.
  2. To support and enhance our writing goal and to ensure an authentic audience our students will blog on a platform open to the world, contributing to and commenting on blogs and other social media platforms
  3. To support the ELA Compose and Create outcome our students will be explicitly taught strong design techniques that will be applied to both online and offline presentation platforms.
  4. All students will create and maintain a learning portfolio within a learning management system (LMS) e.g. SeeSaw, Google Sites, FreshGrade
  5. All students will work with data creating number stories using digital tools to create graphs, charts and infographics.
