FIRE PERMITS

****Reminder****

As per By-Law #1405 A Fire Permit is required year round before starting a fire outdoors anytime(Jan.01-Dec.31).Fire permits have to be obtained before burning grass, crops, brush piles, windrows, fields, debris, smudges and before burning in an incinerator. Agricultural Burn Plans have to be completed before burning windrows, fields, and any burning on peat.

Fire Permits and Agricultural Burn Plans are issued at the Morley Municipal Office Monday through Friday. Permits are also issued by Donna McQuaker from her home in Pattullo and Maury Nielson from his home in Dewart.

township employees.

ONTARIO 150/CANADA 150:

The Township of Morley will be hosting an Ontario 150 Celebration. We are hoping to have the celebration in conjunction with the Stratton Recreation Pie Run on September 9th, 2017. We are looking for volunteers/co-ordinators to help organize and manage this event to help make it a success. Events proposed for the day are The annual pie run, children’s activities, possible barbeque in the afternoon, talent show, baseball, local talent, vendors and a potluck dinner. Please contact the office if you can be of any assistance or have any other ideas!

SUMMER EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

The Township of Morley invites applications for the position of Summer Handyperson Applicants must intend to register at a post-secondary academic institution during the 2017-2018 school year. Applicants must be available to work full time starting @ the third week in May.

Applications are to be in the hands of the Clerk-Treasurer by 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10th, 2017.

Note: the Township will likely be hiring an Assistant Summer Handyperson at a later date.

INDUSTRYCANADA – FEDNOR

Thank you to Industry Canada –FedNor for funding Under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure program to replace the roof at the Recreation Centre.

STRATTON RECREATION COMPLEX

Stratton’s 23rd Annual Fish Derby will be held on Saturday, may 20th, 2017 at the Morley Park. $10.00 entry fee per person in boat. Buttons are available at the Curling Rink, Stratton Service & Country Corner Café. Donations of prizes can be dropped off at Chelsey Sharp’s house prior to May 20th!

NORTH BRANCH CEMETERY:

The Annual Cemetery Clean-Up in North Branch is scheduled for Saturday, May 27th, 2017 @10A.M.!!

FIRE DEPARTMENT:

The Volunteer Fire Department would like to remind you to THINK BEFORE YOU BURN! Fire permits are required year round –NO fires before sunset and must be extinguished by midnight. If your fire needs to be extinguished, all costs will be billed back to the landowner.

PUBLIC SAFETY

Alarms: It’s The Law!

Every home in Ontario must have a working smoke alarm on every storey and outside all sleeping areas.

Homeowners: must install and maintain smoke alarms on every storey of their home and outside sleeping areas.

Landlords: must ensure their rental properties comply with the law.

Tenants: contact your landlord immediately if you do not have the required number of smoke alarms. It is against the law for tenants to remove the batteries or tamper with the alarm in any way.

Failure to comply with the Fire Code smoke alarm requirements could result in a ticket for $360 or a fine of up to $50,000 for individuals or $100,000 for corporations.

STRATTONSENIORS FRIENDSHIP CLUB:

Potluck dinners are held the third Thursday monthly and exercise program Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 9:00a.m. at the Centre. Please contact Gladys Jolicouer or Sheila McMillen to sign up! New members are always welcome!

***The UCW Mothers Day Tea will be held at the Club on Saturday, the 13th of May.***

Weather permitting, the annual picnic/potluck at the Morley Park will be held on June 15th, 2017.

The Club’s annual Fish Fry will be held on July 26th, 2017 in Nestor Falls – contact Sheila McMillan to register.

STRATTON BEST START HUB

Soccer has started! Every Monday and Wednesday Evening from 6-7 at the Rec Centre. The Hub is also open until 5:45p.m. on Wednesday’s. Kids can come to create and enjoy a meal before soccer from 4 – 5:30. Please contact the hub to register.

The Hub is also having a MOM to MOM Spring Sale on May 27th at the Rec Centre. Please contact the Hub if you would like to rent a table for $10.00.
