January 6th, 2014

Dear Parent/Guardian:

In early January, our various schools will be hosting parent nights and information sessions regarding numerous program options available to students as they move to secondary schools.

At Montgomery Middle, our Grade 8 students transition to all secondary schools in the district and it is important that parents and students are aware of the types of programs available, the timelines for parents and information sessions, the cross-catchment procedure, applications and programming selections.

Information will be sent to you regarding the secondary school your child is scheduled to go to based on the information that you have provided in the student verification form. As well, relevant dates will be listed in our school newsletter; however, arrangements for getting your child to entrance exams and school tours ( other than our feeder schools- Centennial and Charles Best), along with gathering up application forms and returning programming sheets is the responsibility of the parent.

For parents of students with special needs or individualized learning, there is an information evening hosted by the Simon Fraser Society for Community Living on Tuesday,January 28, 2014 from 6:30-7:30 in the Gallery Room at Winslow Centre on 1100 Winslow Ave. Please RSVP Rachel at if interested in attending.

Cross-Catchment Protocol

If your child wishes to attend a different school than this/her catchment school, then the parent/guardian must fill out a Request For Cross–Catchment Transfer Form. Request for cross–catchment transfer forms will be available at February 7 until February 19, 2014. This is a first come first served process so it is extremely important you apply at the earliest possibility.

On January 24th, 2014, students will be given an opportunity to tour their secondary school in their catchment area. The counsellors from each of these secondary schools will meet with your child to discuss programming options at this time. Students can only attend a tour of their catchment school. If you are completing a Request For Cross–Catchment Transfer Form, you must attend the tour of your catchment school, not the school you are applying to attend.

PARENT INFORMATION EVENINGS

Each Secondary school has a parent information evening outlining some information about their school. It is an opportunity for parents to become informed and ask any questions. Parents may attend the information evening of any school they choose. This is open to all parents and students.
