VACANCY NOTICE
TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION MONITOR Civil Service: Non-Competitive
Full time, 10-Month position Affiliation: Employees’ Association
Exceptional Education Department Location: BOCES Smith School
DUTIES: The Monitor works on a team and/or individually with Turning Point students, to maintain safety and to implement de-escalation strategies and techniques. Assists students in controlling behavior and exhibiting appropriate behavior in school. Assists in appropriate pupil and program record keeping. *This position works primarily with students needing emotional and/or behavioral support in the Turning Point program, a program for students with significant emotional and behavioral challenges.
QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's Degree or at least 60 college credit hours of study from a
regionally accredited or NYS registered college or University; OR a High School diploma or GED and two years of experience working with children or individuals with disabilities; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience as listed above. (Must meet Civil Service Requirements including residency.)
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. * Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.

START DATE: September 5, 2017.
SALARY: $20,686.00 (2017-2018 full-time base salary) with additional salary credit (up to 10 years) for appropriate prior experience and/or education. Excellent benefits are available.
