Bylaws

  1. League Eligibility
  2. Players must be at least 30 years old by October 1st of current season (Picture ID required).
  3. Each team is allowed two (2) players with Professional or Division I hockey experience. The player must turn 30 byOctober 1st of current season.
  4. Each team is allowed two (2) players 28 years of age or older. The player must turn 28 by March 31stof the current season. Players under the age of 30 must stay with the team that picked them until they are 30 years old.
  1. Team Rosters
  2. Each team will consist of a minimum of 12 players and a maximum of 18 skaters (not including Goalies).
  3. Players may be added to a team as follows:

  1. Each team captain must submit a list of player’s names and numbers by the first weekend in January or the previous season’s roster will be turned in as the official roster for the season.
  2. No changes can be made to a team roster after being handed in without approval of the league board.
  1. Playoff eligibility: half of the regular season games.

  1. Player Movement
  2. If a player wishes to leave a team or is dismissed from a team during the season, that player must notify his team captain or the league president prior to the roster being handed in.
  1. Team Uniforms
  2. Each player must have a jersey in the team color with a 9 inch number on the back.
  3. Each team’s captain and alternate must display a C or A on the left front of the jersey.
  4. Registration of team colors must be approved by the league board.
  1. League Fees
  2. Team fees will be set by the board at the beginning of each season.
  3. Fee payment should be by check for the total amount due at that time, payable to the Mohawk Valley Hockey League.
  4. Fees will be paid in two parts as follows:
  5. First installment to be paid, when player plays his first game.
  6. Second installment to be paid, the first weekend in January.
  7. Any player not paid in full will be handled by the team captain. Each team is responsible for paying their league fee. If a team has a problem with a player not paying, that player will be ineligible to play and will not play again for the rest of the season. The Board will back the team.
  8. Any team that has not paid in full after the final payment is due (first weekend of play in January) will not be allowed to take the ice. The game will be recorded as a 1-0 forfeit with the team that has not paid being recorded the loss. In the event neither team has paid the game will not be played and will not be made up.
  9. If a player owes money from previous seasons, they are ineligible for the season.
  10. A list will be provided to each team of players who have paid and have not paid. Including sponsorship money
  11. The league treasurer will give team captains a financial report at the 10th and 20th games of the season.
  1. Playing Rules
  2. The league will abide by NCAA rules set forth in the NCAA Hockey rule book with the exception of the following rules:
  3. No slapshots are allowed. A slapshot is considered above the waist.
  4. No checking is allowed. A checking penalty carries a minimum of a double minor (4:00 minutes) but can be called under the Excessive Roughingunder section 6 of the rule book which carries a disqualification (major and game misconduct).
  5. Games will consist of three 15:00 minute periods.
  6. Mercy rule: when a team is up by seven (7) goals in the third (3) period running time will be enforced for the rest of the game.
  7. Overtime
  8. In the event of a tie at the end of regulation play, there will be a five minute running time period played 4 on 4. If at the end of that period the game is still tied, the game will end in a tie.
