Job Purpose
Reviews requirements and specifications, and defines test conditions. Designs test cases and test scripts under own direction, mapping back to pre-determined criteria, recording and reporting outcomes. Analyses and reports test activities and results. Identifies and reports issues and risks associated with own work.
Main activities and responsibilities
1.  Reviews requirements and specifications, and defines test conditions. Analyses test requirements, designs and builds simple test case suites, test scripts, and test procedures, with expected results.

3.  Checks test results, and documents test failures and successes compared with pre-determined criteria, in accordance with agreed standards.
4.  Analyses and reports test results to supervisor and/or other colleagues in a clear and concise manner. Identifies and reports issues and risks associated with own work.
5.  Uses normal operating facilities, test scripts, diagnostic tools, technical manuals and systems documentation to identify, diagnose and report on basic system errors.

Person Specification
·  Likely to be educated to bachelor degree level or hold a relevant professional qualification
·  Good understanding of the application of automated systems to the support of specific business functions or processes.
·  Awareness of specific CICT departmental standards such as health and safety standards, departmental programming and accessibility standards, organisational network performance standards, service desk procedures, corporate quality and change management processes.
·  Good working knowledge of the IT infrastructure (hardware, databases, operating systems, local area networks etc) and the IT applications and service processes used within own organisation.
·  Proven experience of testing techniques used to plan and execute software tests of all application components (functional and non-functional) to verify that the software satisfies specified requirements and to detect errors.
·  Demonstrable experience of utilising software tools which automate or assist any part of the testing process, including the test management process, the execution of the tests, the comparison of actual outcomes to predicted outcomes, the setting up of test preconditions, and other test control and test reporting functions.
Special requirements
Able to undertake duties at different premises including any University campus as required.
Travel may be necessary from time to time in order to attend conferences and events, undertake University business and effectively represent the University in key professional networks.
CICT provides services across extended hours. A variety of shift patterns, duty management rotas and on-call arrangements will be applicable.
