Application No. WD/2016/0846/F

Location: THE HAY WAGGON, HIGH STREET, HARTFIELD TN7 4AB

Description: CONVERSION OF EXISTING PUBLIC HOUSE INTO TWO DWELLINGS

AND ERECTION OF DOUBLE GARAGE. CONVERSION OF

SINGLE-STOREY OUTBUILDING AND GRANARY BUILDING TO FORM

SINGLE DWELLING. ALTERATIONS TO DETACHED GARAGE BLOCK

TO FORM GARAGE AND SUMMERHOUSE.

The Parish Council again reiterates strong objection to the application for change of use as this will result in the loss of an iconic local amenity and employer with a knock on effect on the community and other local businesses. It would be a loss of a well known tourist attraction and accompanying tourist accommodation. Finally, as Wealden Planning knows, there is large scale public local opposition to this application and a preference to actively resell as a pub rather than change of use.

The Parish Council objects to the changes suggested to divide a Grade 11 listed ancient dwelling and convert it into residential accommodation that detracts from its historic importance and integrity. We would be very concerned over the parking for 6 cars for three properties and no further room for visitor parking that would spill out onto an already extremely congested High Street.

If the application was approved the PC would ask that it be conditional on the development having its own sewage system to prevent further pressure on the already overwhelmed drainage system serving the High Street. Also that provision for further development of the car park now owned separately is revoked to stop total over development of this historic site. Finally that all materials and vehicles necessary are kept on site as a condition, with deliveries only being made between 9.30am and 2.30pm to avoid complete gridlock in rush hours.
