Veterans Fencing Celtic Challenge 2008

Invitations to the Celtic Challenge: - Brittany, Channel Isles, Cornwall, Eire, Galicia, Isle of Man, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales...

The Competition will be held at the Clywedog Sports Centre, Wrexham, North Wales on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27thJuly 2008. Accommodation is at the Ramada Plaza, Wrexham.

Open Individual Event

The competition is run as an Open Individual Competition, (licensed Veteran fencers with Celtic eligibility) with one 1 round of poules followed by DE, or as a poule unique, depending on the numbers in each discipline. All six weapons are to be fenced, with medals for first, second and double thirds.

Team Event

As time will be at a premium, the team events will be decided as follows: at the START of each discipline, the Manager/ Captain of each team will designate his named team of three in writing. If a Country / Province cannot field three fencers, they will not be in the calculation below, but if all captains/managers agree, mixed country/province teams may be allowed. At the end of the discipline to calculate the team results, the position of the named fencers to be added together, and the team with the lowest number will win the gold medals and so on to find silver and bronze.

There will also be a trophy for the overall Country/Province winners of the Individual and Team competitions.

Referees

It would be a great help if each Country/Province could bring referees or designate fencers capable of refereeing.

Equipment

Equipment to be to FIE standard where practicable. There will be an Allstar equipment stand on site.

Timetable

Arrive Friday 25th July,any time after 14:00 hrs at the Ramada Plaza.Welcome Hot Buffet with a choice of lasagne, chicken curry or vegetarian option, followed by a choice of desserts, served from 19.00 hrs to 21.00 hrs.

Saturday 26th

SABRECheck in09.00hrs, Start 9.30/10.00 hrs Ladies and Men.

FOILCheck in by 12.00 hrs, estimated start 13.00 hrs Ladies and Men

Medal Ceremony for Individual weapons estimated at 17.30 hrs.

Carvery Celebration Dinner at the Ramada Plaza 19.00 hrs for 19.30hrs. There will be a raffle, and we would be obliged if each country/province could bring a prize appertaining to their region. Please also bring your flag for display at the competition.

Sunday 27th

EPEECheck in09.00hrs start 9.30/10.00 Ladies and Men

Estimated time of finish 15.30 hrs followed by presentation of medals and trophies.

The facilities are on site, with free car parking. Sandwiches and hot and cold drinks will be available on both days.

COSTS

Competition entry is £10 per fencer for 1 weapon, £15 for 2 weapons and £20 for 3 weapons.

Ramada Plaza Wrexham, - bed and breakfast £73 for double or twin room per night and £58 for single occupancy per night. Breakfast will be served early from 07:00 on Saturday and Sunday. Credit/debit card details will be needed as security but no charge will be made until checking in.

Friday buffet £10 per person, Saturday Dinner £20 per person.

There will be T-shirts available at a cost of £8, sizes available are small, medium, large, XL, and XXL; if possible state size required on the entry form.
