MINUTES OF A WORLD AIR GAMES (WAG) WORKING GROUP

1 A status report of the FAI and CIA work over the last year was provided by J.C. Weber. The main points are:
a) New WAG format approved by the FAI and the FAI WAG Working Group is moving ahead on the bid process.
b) The CIA has completed their Event Dossier and proposed budget for the three ballooning events (AA, AX and BX) as per FAI request.
c) The FAI has published the “Bid Process” documents and requested that all bids be submitted to the FAI by April 15, 2003.
d) The multi-stage bid review process will then begin within the FAI with involvement of the Air Sport Commissions.
e) FAI is intending to deal with professional organizers but encouraging local involvement from each air sport.
f) Event organizers can select the events they can or want to hold in their location but the CIA will negotiate that all ballooning events are included.
2.The CIA Event Dossier is available on the CIA Web site at: with details requirements planning assumptions and budgets can be downloaded and printed.
3.Work needs to be done in the following areas:
a) WAG competition rules for AA, AX and BX (Rules SC to work on)
b) Appointment of personnel.
- What officials can be shared between balloon events?
- Considering the WAG will generate revenue can the CIA collect an operations fee from the organizers and pay officials? Issues need to be defined.
- CIA WAG Working Group can start an application process for WAG personnel by asking Delegates to forward the information to interested people in their country. The request for CV’s will be sent out by the WAG LO in the next month or two.
- A short list of qualified personnel will be created but the final personnel selection, to be made by the CIA WAG Working Group, will depend on the event location when the bid process is completed in the fall of 2003.
c) Competitor Selection
The CIA WAG Working Group makes the following motion regarding the competitor selection process:
AA and AA and BX Working Groups will have to establish selection criteria for their events.
- CIA WAG Liaison Officer (LO) will be Alex Nagorski
- Budget requirements are unknown at this time and will be addressed by the Bureau as required.
- Membership of the CIA WAG Working Group will remain as chairpersons of each Subcommittee.
