Role: STEM Skills Trainer – Engineering

Salary: £27,075 per annum (pro rata where applicable)

Accountable to:Faculty Area Manager - Engineering

The STEM Skills Trainer role will coordinate the effective development and delivery of STEM projects as directed by the Faculty Area Manager. The postholder will be working within a motivated and determined department that has previous success of supporting young people from all backgrounds to understand STEM related subjects at our Engineering Centre of Excellence and have access to a vast range of industry standard equipment to help deliver inspiring workshop sessions to visiting learners from across the region.

Portfolio of responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver STEM taster sessions and workshops at the STEM centre
  • Produce, deliver and/or facilitate the delivery of DANCOP STEM outreach activities and services such as information sessions and talks, assemblies, taster days, summer schools and workshops to young people, staff and parents
  • To plan and prepare bespoke STEM experience days where appropriate
  • Ensure differentiation of task to ensure the inclusion of all participants
  • Facilitate the engagement of schools and colleges in your designated area(s) with DANCOP activities and services, seeking to ensure that DANCOP resources are applied equitably and as part of a cohesive package
  • Work with partner institutions across the DANCOP project to coordinate outreach activities
  • Keep up to date with the national widening participation, NCOP and STEM agendas, implementing developments as appropriate.
  • Represent the DANCOP network externally where appropriate, and disseminate information to other stakeholders as necessary
  • Develop and manage excellent working relationships with DANCOP stakeholders across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, which will involve travelling independently
  • Complete risk assessments and ensure all equipment and resources are H&S compliant and appropriate for use by the participants
  • Monitor and review the effectiveness of all project activity
  • Other responsibilities commensurate with the level of the role.

2 / NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a STEM related subject / E / 

Experience and Skills:
5 / Experience of delivering teaching or training in STEM subjects / E /  / 
6 / Recent experience of event coordination, particularly in the context of progression activities for young people, predominantly year 9 to year 13 / E /  / 
7 / Recent experience of working with school or college staff to achieve shared goals / D / 
8 / Related vocational experience within STEM subjects / E /  / 
