Milwaukee IIA Chapter Members,

If your household is anything like mine, December is one of those months that zips by seemingly in seconds because of how busy we are during this time of year. Ready or not, 2016 is just right around the corner. For some of us, the beginning of the New Year is an opportunity to start new. In our personal lives, some of us will start new commitments to join a health club or start a new diet or stop doing a certain habit. Most of these resolutions are like the jelly of the month club in that they are the gifts that just keep giving; either we find permanent benefit from these changes or we have the opportunity to start them all over again as next year’s resolutions.

Professionally, we have the same opportunity to makecommitmentsto better ourselves and our audit processes. We are involved in a fantastic profession that provides us numerous opportunities to grow, develop, and add value to our employers. However, we need to invest in ourselves to maximize our potentialand keep up with the growing demand of the profession. We grow when we take opportunities to put ourselves in growth situations. Sometimes those situations come in the form of taking on a new certification. Sometimes we grow best by actively participating in relevant learning events. Sometimes, we grow through enhancing our networking and attending professional social events. For me, I grow best when I go outside of my typical comfort zone and open myself up to new ideas, experiences and people. Growth is one of the reasons why I volunteer in various capacities within different organizations. I can say confidently that I have experienced significant growth both professional and personally as a result of my involvement.

As you think your career investments and commitments in 2016, I ask that you keep the Milwaukee IIA Chapter in mind. The Chapter leadership team is seeking new people to join us in leadership. We will have opportunities in the new chapter year to serve in officer or board of governor roles. These roles provide you the opportunity to invest in yourself and push outside your normal comfort zones. These opportunities will involve additional work and responsibility but will provide an excellent opportunity to grow your leadership, networking, and communication skills. Frankly, I’m not sure there is a Milwaukee IIA Chapter member that DOES NOT have these skills on their development list. If you are interested, please reach out to me or another member of the leadership team.

One last thing, we have our last learning and social event of the calendar year tomorrow. The Milwaukee IIA Chapter’s own Jeff Browning will speak about leading transformational change. Jeff is CAE of Brookfield-based Fiserv and is an outstanding presenter who last spoke at the 2014 IIA All Stars conference. Clickhereto register for tomorrow’s learning and social event. Separate no-charge registration for attending only the social event is also available.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any board/leadership member if you have any questions, comments or suggestions. I can be reached at 414.283.2515 or .

Best Regards,

Matt Braeger, CPA
