Dear Parent/Guardian,

I am pleased to confirm we will be offering the opportunity again this year for senior pupils in P6 to participate in cycle training in school. We will be offering on road training through the Bikeability Scotland – level 2.This is part of a multi- level program designed to give children the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today’s roads. The children will develop the knowledge, skills and understanding to make informed decisions as road users.

The training will take place on a Monday evening, apart from the 2 weeks with a Monday holiday in them. These weeks, training will take place on a Tuesday. Each child attending will be given a list of days and dates.

If your child attends homework club, can you let me know on the reply slip.

We plan to run a series of six sessions starting on Tuesday 5th May for 6 weeks, finishing on Monday 8th June.

Children will be assessed on a series of manoeuvres using a clear set of learning outcomes. Each training session will start at 3.30pm and finish at 4.30pm. Mrs Lovett, Ms Wilson and the Junior Road Safety Officers will deliver the course along with a number of volunteer helpers depending on number of children taking part.

If you would like your child to take part in the training, could you please fill in the form below and return to Mrs Lovett by Tuesday 31st March 2015.

Your child will also be required to bring their bike to school on Tuesday 28th April to have their bike checked by the ‘Dr Bike’ team. All bikes must be passed as roadworthy before cycle training commences. Attached is an inspection check sheet to ensure your child’s bike is up to inspection standard.

When your child brings their bike to school they must WALK not CYCLE in the playground, wear a cycle helmet at all times and lock their bike to the bike stands. The school has padlocks that can be loaned to your child during the Cycle Training. These are available from Mrs Lovett on request.

Yours sincerely

Mrs A. Lovett/Ms L. Wilson
