Comments
KSS
Having introduced LTFT Training funding changes in July 2010, KSS Deanery was concerned that the numbers would reduce and trusts would find it more challenging to meet the demand through slot-sharing and reduced sessions, so we are pleased to report an increase of 31% LTFT trainees, compared to the same period last year.
London
London’s LTFT budget has increased by 10% in the last 5five years but the number of flexible trainees has increased by 40%. Therefore a great deal of attention is paid to managing the budget very tightly. We do not have the resources to provide the level of detail requested in this questionnaire.
Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland has reviewed the policy on approval for new applicants to LTFT. Eligibility is confirmed when the child is born, or if the doctor has health reasons for requesting LTFT. Almost all are now facilitated as reduced hours, or slotshare arrangements, and fewer are facilitated using supernumerary funding.
Scotland
WEST REGION: Note disparity between Specialties by Grade and the Questions which relate to Gender. We have the following breakdown of trainees who 'would prefer not to say' about their gender. Therefore the number of trainees who have no gender identified are therefore not included in the totals provided in this form! Note from Data Team – The totals were given separately and have been included in the relevant charts in this report as ‘Unknown’.
Severn
Re Question 2 Total number of Foundation Trainees, unfortunately we are not able to show the split between Male & Female so thetotal numbers are (F1) 280 & (F2) 288. Re Questions 13a &b this information is not routinely collected. However we know the LTFT trainees are securing consultant post in and outside the Region.
Wales
1. Wales is currently reviewing funding arrangements for LTFT. The budget has so far been reduced to £1.5 million which represents the current LTFT commitment. The budget for this financial year is expected to be confirmed by WAG around the end of May 2011. 2. Information about the number of GP trainees who have obtained a GP principal post is currently not available. 3. Outcomes of LTFT Research Project - This project reviewed all LTFT trainees from 2000-10 and has given the Wales Deanery an in-depth view of many aspects of LTFT training. Positive outcomes have been identified and benefits to both the trainees and the NHS in Wales are clear. 4. Wales Deanery now has 2 LTFT trainee reps in post to support LTFTs in their transition to part-time training. 5. In liaison with the WCAT programme director we have agreed processes in LTFT for academic trainees. 6. As well as the LTFT trainees indicated above by specialty we also have the following LTFT trainees in Neurology & Clinical Oncology (Neurology F2 x 2, ST3+/SpR x 2 and Clinical Oncology STR3+/SpR x 4).
Wessex
We still do not have a robust way to capture the number of enquiries that have been made that do not result in an application.
Yorkshire and the Humber
Figures given are for the total number of LTFT trainees appointed to Consultant/GP Principal positions - LTFT or FT appointments are unknown.
Our Workshops continue to be popular and are an excellent way of allowing LTFT Trainees to speak to each other and learn from the experiences of established LTFT Trainees. We continue to see all trainees who are wishing to train LTFT for health or carer reasons.
