Cisco Workshop—1 Day

Ishpeming—Thursday, June 16

Did you know that Cisco has free resources that can be used in your middle school and high school classrooms to help students learn about technology and the Internet of Everything (IOE)? We are excited to present this one-day workshop to introduce teachers to these valuable resources and help build a funnel for STEM related careers.

At this workshop, teachers will have the opportunity to develop their own Internet of Everything (IOE) course and/or Linux Essentials course through the Cisco Networking Academy. Instruction and resources will be provided in appropriate hands-on activities and labs that can be incorporated into the curriculum including: IOE Hackathon, Raspberry Pi Robots and Packet Tracer networking labs. Teachers will leave with a course set up and ready to incorporate into any existing technology related class. This can be done as a full curriculum or as a unit within a current class.

No place in your class schedule to add this? How about setting it up as an after school club to encourage students to look at STEM pathways or allowing students to self-enroll to further their own knowledge and skills.

The Introduction to the Internet of Everything (IoE)course provides an overview of the concepts and challenges of the IoE economy. The course discusses the Internet and its evolution to the interconnection of people, processes, data, and things that forms the Internet of Everything. The NDGLinux Essentialscourse is an introduction to Linux as an operating system, basic open source concepts, how Linux is used, and the basics of the Linux command line. A Linux virtual machine and step-by-step labs give you hands-on access to practice, explore, and try Linux command line concepts. You’ll build skills and knowledge by “doing” as you learn. Other free resources include: Be Your Own Boss, Technopreneurship and Intro to Cyber Security.
