MENTAL HEALTH STUDENT

DRESS CODE REQUIREMENTS

Within the Mental Health Service, there are placement areas that require the student nurse to wear a uniform and placement areas that require the nurse to dress as per dress code guidelines. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that they are aware of the dress requirements for placements prior to commencement of clinical placements.

2010 & 2011 COHORT

The following dress code must be adhered to on all Clinical Placement Sites or students have the opportunity to change in its entirety to the 2012 onward Dress code.

Ø  Female Students: Navy trousers, white blouse (HSE logo) navy gilet or navy fleece as supplied, with black laced up shoes.

Ø  Male Students: Navy trousers, white shirt (HSE logo), navy gilet or navy fleece as supplied with black laced up shoes.

2012 & 2013

In all areas where nurses do not wear uniforms e.g. community placements all Cohort’s to attend placement in a smart white blouse /shirt and navy trousers.

In all areas that wear a uniform:

Ø  Female Students: White tunic as supplied (HSE logo), navy trousers & black laced up shoes.

Ø  Male Students: white shirt as supplied (HSE Logo) navy trousers & black laced up shoes.

Tunic is not to be worn outside of hospital/unit grounds.

Casual clothing is not acceptable, e.g. jeans, tracksuits, shorts, t-shirts, rugby-shirts, short skirts or any overtly casual wear.

All Mental health students to wear black laced up shoes. (Sandals, high heels, pumps, trainers or platform-soled shoes are not acceptable).

In all Placement Areas:

Photographic identification and /or Name Badges must be worn at all times.

v  The use of mobile phones is prohibited during clinical placement hours

v  Stud earrings and wedding bands only may be worn no other jewelry is permitted.

v  Nails should be kept short and nail-varnish is not permitted.

v  Hair must be kept neat and hair below shoulder length must be tied up in a professional manner.

Note: Students must familiarise themselves with the uniform policy for Lisnagry and the Mid Western Regional Hospital prior to placements there Students in any doubt about the dress requirements should be guided by the Clinical Nurse Manager at the clinical location, or by the Clinical Placement Co-ordinator. Inappropriate attire or incomplete uniform can result in the student being sent home from clinical placement and may result in disciplinary action.
