MENGEL’S ‘MINDERS: 8/20/12

  1. CAMPSO FAR: Thanks to all band members for a productive 1st week of camp. You worked hard and kept a good attitude throughout. If you maintain that attitude and continue to work hard, then we’ll definitely have a great season!
  1. ITEMS DUE: At this point, you should have turned in the following to your drum majors:
  • $13.00 for your band t-shirt (check payable to “OJR MPO Band Chapter”)
  • $5.00 for your band gloves (separate from the t-shirt check - cash is fine for this)
  • The back two pages from your marching band handbook – the medical form and the contract.
  • Payment for band shoes if you ordered new shoes. ($34.00 payable to “final touch”)
  • Orders for band spirit wear if interested – due this Friday, Aug. 24th (please note – the spirit wear t-shirts are different from the band t-shirts that all of the band members purchase). I will attach the order form for spirit wear here with the information.
  • Section ads for the OJR Cavalcade Program Book

3.ANNUAL BAND KICKOFF PICNIC (TAILGATE) THIS FRIDAY – 6PM: This year’s season kickoff night will be on Friday, August 24th at 6 pm in the stadium. PARENTS OF ALL BAND MEMBERS ARE INVITED AND ENCOURAGED TO COME OUT FOR THIS TRADITIONAL “KICK OFF” OF THE FALL SEASON. This is a FUN night and a great way to meet other parents and get a sense of how our terrific program is run. (Plus dinner is free, so that’s always a plus!) The high school band will be performing what we have learned of our fall show by that point and all parents will have the opportunity to sign up for various volunteer committees to help us out throughout the fall season. This is a great opportunity for parents to come out and see what we’re all about. All band members will need their uniforms and will be photographed individually and as a group.

All marching band members are asked to bring the following to the band room in advance (Tues/Wed/Thurs):

Woodwinds, Brass, Battery Percussion:12-pack of canned soda. Coke products only please! This includes Coke, Cherry Coke, Sprite, Dr. Pepper, Canada Dry, Minute Maid, Hires and Power Aid. Diet versions of all of these are welcome.

Also needed are small bags of chips, pretzels, other sides, etc.

Colorguard and Pit Percussion: 12-pack of bottled water or canned tea. Dasani water and Nestea are Coke-owned products. Tea can also be diet.

Also needed are wrapped desserts for the dessert table. No cupcakes please!

  1. OJR BAND NIGHT AT RITA’S: This Wednesday (8/22) is OJRBand Night at Rita’s in Pughtown. Our band will receive a portion of the proceeds that night as a fundraiser for our program. Tell your friends, neighbors, and get everyone there that you can! Thanks to Mr. Mark Centanni for organizing this fundraiser for our program.
  1. ANNUAL CHEESECAKE FUNDRAISER STARTS THIS WEEK: Our annual OJR band Cheesecake Fundraiser is starting this week. Band members will receive all of the necessary information for this important fundraiser. This is a big one for us and it’s important that we all do our best to raise as many funds as possible.

6.UNIFORM FITTINGS: Last week all band members got fitted for a uniform thanks to our terrific OJR band parent uniform crew headed up by Mrs. Dannelle Gerhart. Thanks to all parents who assisted with this process and to Mrs. Gerhart in particular. If you have any questions about how to take care of your uniform please contact Mrs. Gerhart at: .

7. PRINTER CARTRIDGE & CELL PHONE COLLECTION REMINDER: Just a reminder that the band parents have an on-going fundraiser which is the collection of used ink-jet printer cartridges and old cell phones. This has been raising a good deal of funds for the organization, so please consider saving those old cartridges and bring them in. A collection box is outside Mr. Mengel’s office in the band room.
