INFORMATION/DISCUSSION

Articulation

Shannon reported that she had just attended her first Executive Board meeting for SCIAC (Southern California Intersegmental Articulation Council) as the co-chair of Region 6 and that they were joined in their meeting by Ken O’Donnell (State Associate Dean for Academic Program and Policy who oversees CSU GE-Breadth) and Eric Forbes (new Director of Enrollment Management Services for the CSU). The Articulation Officers were able to express their frustration with the CSUs that will not articulate with any community colleges not in their service region or with low transfer rates or will not update existing articulation for campuses that don’t transfer large numbers of students. They were told that this seemed like a barrier to transfer and did not help to create those “seamless pathways” that legislation such as SB 1440 were trying to achieve and that this would be addressed within the CSU.

DTRW

Erika reported that the PE and IA courses that were pulled from the Board meeting were placed on the October Board agenda. These PE and IA courses were approved by the Curriculum Committee and DTRW originally with the discipline abbreviation of IA. However, it was discovered that the discipline abbreviation IA had been used for a program (existed in 1984-1986 prior to Banner implementation) called Instructional Associate. In order to avoid confusion on transcripts, Oxnard College has changed the discipline to ICA to align itself with Ventura College’s planned curricular changes in the Intercollegiate Athletics area. A note to this effect was placed on the Board submittal. If there are any additional questions/concerns, Erika will answer them at the Board meeting.

The Early Childhood Site Supervisor Proficiency Award was not placed on the October Board agenda because the required documentation discussed at the last meeting was not received in time. After receipt of the documentation, this Proficiency Award will be placed on a future Board agenda (hopefully for the November meeting).

DCSL

No report – committee meets tomorrow.

GE SUBCOMMITTEE

Shannon reported that the GE Subcommittee had its first meeting of the year on Monday, 9/20 and would be meeting again immediately following the Curriculum meeting. The focus this year is on GE SLOs. The GE Subcommittee now has its own webpage linked from the Curriculum Committee website and it features a membership list, their charge, and meeting agendas and notes.

DEPARTMENTS PLANS FOR COURSES ON THE 5-YEAR REVISION LIST

Erika asked that these action plans be sent to Betty for placement/discussion at the October 13th meeting. Once again she asked members to consider suspending/deleting courses that have not been offered recently.

STATUS OF DEPARTMENT TECH REVIEW

Please let your departments know that due to the Academic Senate’s decision to cut release time, we no longer have Tech Reviewers. The committee made the decision that tech review is to be done at the department/division level. If faculty need articulation advice, contact Shannon Davis (formerly Shannon Ordonez) directly. When curricular items are submitted to Betty Hough via , the assumption is that these items are ready to be placed on an agenda for First Reading. This means that both the electronic and hard copies have been received and that both iterations of the cover sheet have all of the codes (TOP, SAM, and CLASSIFICATION) in place. It also means that the hard copy contains all of the necessary signatures. If a cover sheet is not complete, the course WILL NOT BE placed on the agenda for First Reading. Note: Electronic and hard copies must be received the Wednesday BEFORE the next meeting.

Adjournment

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 3:25 p.m.
