DOUGH NEEDED TO HELP SICK KIDS ACROSS AUSTRALIA

Help Bakers Delight raise money for sick children on Saturday 28 March!

Easter shopping list...

26 tonnes of flour

22 tonnes of sultanas

16 tonnes of currants

2.5 tonnes of spices

What can you make with all these ingredients? About 783,000 Hot Cross Buns, which will buy essential equipment for children’s hospitals across Australia!

Bakers across Australia are calling for customers to make their Hot Cross Bun purchase really count this Easter by raising valuable dough for children’s hospitals across the country on Saturday 28 March.

On ‘Bundraiser’Day, more than 630 Bakers Delight bakeries Across Australia will be donating $1 from every six-pack of Hot Cross Buns sold to their local children’s hospital, helping make a difference for sick children, such as 8-year-old Nikki Constantinou this Easter.

Funds raised from Hot Cross Buns sold in New South Wales will go towards purchasing a Nitric Oxide Machine for the Sydney Children’s Hospital – equipment which will help kids like Nikki who suffer from acute asthma breathe easier.

Associate Professor Adam Jaffe, Head of the Respiratory Department at Sydney Children’s Hospital, said: “Asthma in kids is a major problem in Australia. In most cases children are well controlled on asthma medication, but there are some, such as Nikki, who often suffer from repeat asthma attacks.

“Asthma is a symptom that can sometimes mimic other conditions the Nitric Oxide Machine will allow doctors to pinpoint the issue and guide treatment. There are only a handful of places in Australia that have this capability and we are extremely grateful for this generous donation from Bakers Delight.”

Nationally, hospitals set to benefit from Bakers Delight’s fundraising efforts include:

  • Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation (NSW)
  • Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal (VIC)
  • Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation (QLD)
  • PrincessMargaretHospital Foundation (WA)
  • Women and Children’s Hospital Foundation (SA)
  • RoyalHobartHospital (TAS)
  • RoyalDarwinHospital (NT)

Chris Caldwell, General Manager at Bakers Delight said: “We’ve been baking our Hot Cross Buns for over 29 years and they are one of our biggest sellers. For 10 years we’ve been raising money for the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation in Western Australia, and due to its success we wanted to extend this initiative across our network and give something back to communities across Australia.

“We encourage all our customers to make their Hot Cross Bun purchase count this year, by purchasing a six-pack on Saturday 28 March so we can reach our target and help children like Nikki,” added Chris.
