MCAS Mathematics Pacing Guide for Kindergarten

May 2010

To successfully complete Kindergarten the learner will:

  • Count by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s (0-110).
  • Write, recognize, name numbers (0-20).
  • Order numbers (0-20) and match with the correct number of objects.
  • Order and match numbers (to 20).
  • Find the number that is one (1) more than or one (1) less than any number up to 10.
  • Sort and compare objects (by shape, size, number of vertices, sides or other attributes).
  • Identify shapes (circle, triangle, square, rectangle and cube).
  • Understands concepts of time (morning, afternoon, evening, today, tomorrow, yesterday, day, week, month and year).
  • Make comparisons of length, capacity, weight, and temperature of objects and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, warmer, cooler or holds more.
  • Understand concept of addition.
  • Understand concept of subtraction.
  • Understand positional words.
  • Make simple patterns with colors, shapes, and/or numbers.
