MAYFLOWER PEMBROKE WELSH CORGI CLUB
Versatile Performance Awards Schedule
EFFECTIVE 1/1/14
The purpose of the Mayflower Versatile Performance Awards is to recognize member-owned Pembroke Welsh Corgis who achieve AKC titles in several performance and/or conformation venues. These awards are intended to recognize and encourage members to participate in a variety of activities that enhance the relationship between dog and handler and celebrate Pembroke Welsh Corgi versatility. To qualify for these awards dog/handler teams must earn AKC titles in two or more "core" performance areas -- Obedience, Tracking, Herding, and Agility. Teams may accumulate additional points for Rally obedience, conformation, therapy work, and/or “Other” areas recognized by AKC. For reference purposes, a glossary of abbreviations is attached at the end of this document.
Mayflower Versatile Performance Award (VPA)
To qualify for the Versatile Performance Award, a dog must earn a minimum of 12 points (see attached point chart) with:
•A minimum of 6 points (3 in each area) earned in two core performance areas (Obedience, Tracking, Herding or Agility)
•The other six points must include at least 1 point in another “venue” —a different core, Rally or "Other." Points may be earned cumulatively from any combination of the core AKC performance areas, “Other” and Rally.
Mayflower Versatile Performance Award Excellent (VPAX)
To qualify for the Versatile Performance Excellent Award, a dog must earn a minimum of 18 points (see attached chart) with:
•Nine points (minimum of 3 in each area) in 3 core performance areas (Obedience, Tracking, Herding, or Agility)
•At least 6 points in a single core area (Obedience Tracking, Herding, or Agility)
•The other 6 points may come from any combination of venues (“Other”, Rally, core areas).
Point System and Examples
This point system is based on the concept of versatility, i.e. achievement in three or more venues. Due to the requirement of points in multiple venues, the maximum number of points from any one venue that count towards these awards is 12. In the future it may be desirable to create an additional award that celebrates multiple championships and lifetime achievements in one or more venues.
The point system appears on the next page. On the third page are examples of how different handlers with different goals may earn awards. The glossary of titles appears on page 4.

^ The AKC views the TD and TDU as equivalent, introductory titles. For Mayflower purposes, a dog earning the first of these will be awarded 3 points; if the second title is earned, the dog will be awarded 1 additional point
~ As new titles are recognized by AKC,the PE committee may addthem to the "Other" category with a value of 1 point each by a simple majority vote.
Below are examples of how handlers with different goals might earn these awards:
Example 1 Snazzy
Snazzy is a breed champion and obedience Utility Dog (UD). Her owner wants Snazzy to earn an Obedience Trial Championship (OTCH) and she would like to earn Mayflower versatility awards. To earn a VPA, Snazzy must achieve at least 3 points in another “core” area. A VPA plan could be:
•NAJ and OAJ for the 3 additional core area points for a total of -- 9 points obedience, 3 for breed championship, and 3 points in agility (to fulfill core requirements)
•To earn a VPAX, Snazzy needs only 3 more points. These points must come from a third core area (tracking or herding.)
Example 2 Dash
Dash is an energetic year old male who loves to work. His owner wants to try a variety of the activities. Dash's plan for a VPA could be:
•NA/ plus OA -- 3 points in one core area
•PT plus HT –4 points in second core area
•RN + RA (Rally Novice and Rally Advanced) – 3 points
•Barn Hunt (1) and CA (1) -- 2 points
•This would total 12 points
•To earn a VPAX, Dash needs 6 more points. Three of these must come from an additional core area and three must come from an advanced title in a core area in which Dash already participates.
