TheEQUALITY AND DIVERSITYincorporates,for thefirsttime,information,issuesand potentialareasfor action in relation tosexual orientation,age andreligion/belief, pregnancy andmaternity and gender reassignment. Whilethereis nolegal requirement todevelop ‘policys’in theseareas,broadening theapproach toall seven recognisedequalitystrandsillustratesourcommitment toensuringequality forall.

1.Introduction
Thisis our firstEquality and Diversity. Through it, theexisting work wehavecarried out over manyyears to addressthespecific needs of individualsand groupsofchildren, young people,parents, staffandother usersof Mawnan Church of England Primary Schoolwill bedevelopedand enhanced.
Thispolicywill bemonitored anddelivered through theGovernors’ roleplusschool improvement and selfevaluationprocesses.
We will ensurethatevery pupil irrespectiveof their needs isable toachievehigh standardsandthatstrategiesarein placetotackleunder–achievement. Wewillensure thatevery pupil hasaccessto thenecessary support requiredtoenable them toachieve their highest potential.Wewillensurethatour proceduresfor disciplining pupilsand managingbehaviourarefair,effectiveandequitable.
Our aim is toensurethat theadultsworking or volunteering atMawnan Church of England Primary Schoolinclude asmuch and where everpossibleabalancedgender mix, appropriaterepresentationof diverseethnic groupsand disabledpeople.We believethatthiswill provide goodrole modelsfor pupilsfrom allbackgrounds.However our primary aim is to ensure that the best interests of all the children are met.

We understand that Community Cohesion is theprocessthatshouldhappen inall communitiestoensurethatdifferentgroupsand individual people get on welltogether. Itshould alsoallowfornew residentsand existingresidentsto adapttooneanother.
At Mawnan Church of England Primary School
createasenseof sharedvaluesby celebratingthecultural diversity ofour school community. We havea dedicatedanti bullyingweek with assembliespresentedby our pupils. Thereare discrete e-safety sessionsfor our pupilsandannual sessionsfortheir parents/carersthat lookat cyber bullying. Theschool hasastrongpupil voice. We work closelywithexternal agenciestosupportindividualpupils.
We developan understanding in pupilsthatthey all havearesponsibility totheir sharedfuturethrough our curriculum, extra-curricular programmeandPastoral activities,including assemblies.Mawnan Church of England Primary SchoolhasengagedwiththeBritish Council and has link with the Peace Garden School in Nepal.

Section 18–Complaints
Ifa member ofthepublicfeelsthatthey havesufferedharassmentor beentreated unfairly by theschool becauseof their sex,colour,race,nationality, ethnicgroup, regional or nationalorigin, age,marital status,disability,political orreligiousbelief, sexual orientation or class, they should reportthiswithoutfail through Mawnan Church of England Primary School complaintsprocedure.
Complaints by staffwillbedealtwith under theDignity atWorkPolicy or underthe
StaffGrievanceprocedureasappropriate.
We takeall external andinternal complaints seriouslyand will nottolerateanyformof discriminatory behaviour. Complaintsaboutstaffwill beinvestigatedusingthe complaintsprocedures.
Monitoring complaintsisalso another way ofgathering information toseewhetherwe aremeeting our equality duties.We will reportannuallyon complaintsmade andaction taken as part ofmonitoring theSingle EqualitiesPolicy.
