Leadership at the College

College leaders are responsible for the management and leadership of their teams and are expected to be active members of the College’s Leadership Team.

Organisation

The role of the Deputy Principal Curriculum and Academic Standards is a Senior Middle leadership role at the College. The incumbent will report directly to the Principal, but will work closely with the Deputy Principals who have a primary responsibility for Learning and Engagement across all year levels,plus all Heads of Learning Areas.

Purpose of the Role

The role aligns with the strategic direction of Learning, ensuring the College always maintains a focus on providing the best support for the intellectual development of every learnersuch that they each have the best possible chance to excel personally.

As a member of the College Leadership Team, the Deputy Principal Curriculum and Academic Standards will:

Participate in decision-making, and assist in developing policy and maintaining procedures within the College in line with Catholic Education Office WA’s (CEO WA) policies and guidelines

Work closely and collaboratively with the Principal and Deputy Principals to drive a strong academic improvement agenda for the school grounded in evidence from research and best practice

Ensure the College progresses in school improvement areas defined in the Quality Catholic School (QCS) and National Schools Improvement (NSI) frameworks, which have a clear focus on learning outcomes and curriculum

Provide support to the Heads of Learning Areas in meeting the demands of their roles

Measure student outcomes and improvements in academic performance

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Key responsibilities are those over which the role holder has a controlling impact on end results and where shared responsibility with others is subordinate.

The overarching responsibility of the Deputy Principal Curriculum and Academic Standards is to provide a relentless focus on individual learning and support for the curriculum. The roles and duties of the Deputy Principal Curriculum and Academic Standards will continue to be refined with the Deputy Principals.

Key Responsibility / Desired Outcome
Strategic Plan:
Lead the review of academic standards as input to Domain Three -Education from the CEOWA QCS School Review and Improvement Framework
Assist in the development and implementation of the College Strategic Plan in line with theCEOWA QCS School Review and Improvement Framework and the Bishops of WA Mandate for Catholic Schools / Goals, strategies and targets in relation to the academic improvement agenda, including analysis and discussion of academic data, systemic curriculum delivery and differentiated teaching and learning outcomes
Learning – Analysis and Discussion of Data:
Collect and analyse school wide systemic data on student academic outcomes across all year groups, using both internal and external standards
Measure and analyse changes in performance over years from standardised tests
Report on overall school academic performance as well as the performance of students from identified groups
Compare College performance with similar schools / Collection of systemic and comprehensive data across all year groupsincluding academic, attendance and behavioural outcomes, and student wellbeing
Readily accessible database of historical academic performance data
Evidence of improvement or regression in academic performance over time
Ability to identify trends and respond appropriately where required
Learning – Systemic Curriculum Delivery:
Collaborate with Deputy Principals and Heads of Learning Areas to develop a coherent, sequenced plan for curriculum delivery in line with the Australian Curriculum or other approved curriculum
Work with Deputy Principals to ensure teachers are provided with appropriate professional learning opportunities in line with AITSL standards / Evidence-based teaching practices are embedded in the curriculum delivery
Assessment and reporting procedures aligned to curriculum delivery plan
Consistent teaching and learning expectations with a clear reference for monitoring learning across the year levels
Shared vision for curriculum practice
Learning – Differentiated Teaching and Learning Outcomes:
Ensure that school wide policies, practices and programmes are in place to assist in identifying and addressing individual student’slearning needs
Work in collaboration with Heads of Learning Areas to maintain a learning environment that is inclusive, intellectually rigorous and addresses the learning needs of individual students across the spectrum of abilities / All students engaged with individual learning plans
Academic extension for high-achieving students appropriate to their capabilities

In addition to the administrative duties described above, the Deputy Principal Curriculum and Academic Standards will be required to undertake a classroom, teaching role. This will reflect the balance between staffing requirements and priorities as negotiated with the Principal. Other duties may be required by and negotiated with the Deputy Principals or Principal.

Ability to interface and work collaboratively with the whole College Leadership Team and Heads of Learning Areas, particularly with regard to measuring and improving academic standards

Shift the perception that academic standards are lower at Prendiville Catholic College

Maintain a focus on academic standards,in balance with a holistic and character focused curriculum

Experience & Expertise Required

Educational Qualifications

Have completed or studying a Masters level Education degree

Qualifications or willingness to pursue further professional learning in the area of educational data and its use to guide our teaching and learning processes
