Welcome to Algebra II

Algebra II Course Description:

Algebra II is a course designed to provide students advanced algebraic topics through the study of functions, “families” of functions, equations, inequalities, systems of equations, polynomials, rational expressions, complex numbers, probability, sequence and series, and the normal distribution curve. Algebra II serves as a foundation course that helps prepare students for advanced math topics that are taught in Trigonometry, Pre-calculus, and Calculus.

In Algebra II this year the student will be able to:

1. Solve absolute value, polynomial, rational and radical equations.

2. Analyze functions of the following types: absolute value, square root, cube root, polynomial, exponential, and logarithmic.

3. Solve systems of linear/quadratic equations, both algebraically and graphically.

4. Simplify rational and radical expressions.

5. Solve real-world problems involving variation models.

6. Identify and use arithmetic and geometric sequences.

7. Find curve of best-fit for real-life data and use to make predictions.

8. Use knowledge of permutations, combinations, and the normal distribution model todetermine theprobability

of real-world situations.

Supplies Needed:

  1. 1” three ring binder
  2. Paper
  3. Pencils/Ink Pens
  4. White Board Marker
  5. Book Cover
  6. TI -84+graphing calculator or equivalent

We have a classroom set, but they cannot go home with the student. This calculator will be used a great deal in this class, so it is recommended that you purchase one for you own use. This calculator will also serve you in college; you will not have to buy another one.

Grading:

Grading for each nine week period will be based on tests, projects, quizzes, graded assignments, class work, and homework.

Class Work/Homework 10%Quizzes 30%

Graded Assignments 20% Tests/Projects 40%

Expectations:

  1. Students are required to behave in a mature manner at all times. Classroom courtesy and respect will serve as our guide for the classroom.
  2. Students are to bring required materials to class each day. Required materials include homework, notebook with contents, pencil, and ink pen.
  3. Electronic devices will be used for instructional purposes only. Students need to remember the acceptable use agreement policies.
  4. The tardy bell signals the beginning of class. The student should be in his /her assigned seat.
  5. It is the responsibility of the student to maintain the cleanliness of the student desk and work area.
  6. Snacks, gum and drinks are not allowed in the classroom. Only clear water will be allowed.
  7. Restroom passes will be issued for emergencies only.
  8. Class ends upon teacher dismissal.
  9. All students are to make up assignments missed when absent or tardy. Make-up work must be completed according to school policy. It is the responsibility of the student to meet with the teacher to arrange for make-up work.
  10. Participation is expected from all students. During class, students are required to work toward success.
  11. Students are expected to follow the guidelines established by the KWHS Code of Honor and Integrity.
