Material Provided: Notebook, folder, paper, pencils

Course Description: The goal of this course is to provide students with the scientific principle, and concepts related to the study of Earth, its atmosphere and the universe.

Methods: Instruction consists of the use of a computer program for lessons and tests. The class will participate in teacher directed discussions, demonstrations, labs, scientific reading and writing. Every unit will include at least one hands on activity related to the content. Instruction in scientific reading will be weekly as well as writing.

Class Expectations: All district/school-based rules are enforced! Other expectations include:

  1. Be on Time.
  2. Be prepared – ready to participate and work
  3. Smiles Appreciated!
  4. No food or drink. Bottle water is permitted.
  5. Be respectful of others and their property.
  6. Put trash in the trashcans. We will leave the room the way we found it.
  7. No candy
  8. Ask questions, participate in class discussions.
  9. Cell phones only used for educational purposes (taking notes, timer, etc.)

Grading System: The grading system that I am using this year will be through the computer program called Odyssey. I will be teaching along side your student as they work through each lesson. For this reason, I have included a full explanation of my system. Every unit will include specific learning targets that correspond to specific skills. I will send home progress grades as well as end of nine weeks grades.

If a student does not initially make proficient (75%) or higher on a learning target, they may remediate as many times as they wish to get the score of proficiency or better.

Academic Honesty

Cheating is prohibited. If a student is caught cheating on an assignment or test, they will receive a “0” for the grade. The student will also be referred to the office for discipline. Cheating also refers to plagiarism and copying from worksheets on the Internet.

Attendance: Good attendance is the number one indicator of how a student will perform on assessments. School board policy allows 2 make-up days for each day absent. If multiple days are missed, extra days may be allowed. Unexcused absences result in a “0 “ (zero) on all assignments given that day. This is detrimental to a students’ grade. Please make every effort to be at school.

COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING AND RETURN TOMORROW.

I have read and agree with the conditions of this class
