COURSE DESCRIPTION
Canadian history is absolutely incredible when given a chance, and when approached in the right manner. If you take the time to dig into Canada's history, you are likely to find a past that is as rich and as fascinating as any other country's.
Illuminating the past, challenging you to think critically and creatively, and building the academic and social skills necessary for future educational and career endeavors are the cornerstones of this course. Throughout the course you will be encouraged to be an active participant through debates, simulations, and role-playing. The ultimate success of the course depends on you! /

EXPECTATIONS OF STUDENTS
Welcome to the “Classroom of the Future”! All course resources can be found on Markville History’s Website: Students are expected to check the online binder daily for the daily schedule, homework, student marks, review area, student exemplars and upcoming due dates. All handouts can be downloaded from the website and all assignments will be submitted through Moodle.

Students are expected to put forth at all times a sincere effort and to maintain and complete organized notes / online binder. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential to ensure success in the course.

Should students miss a class due to illness or any legitimate reason, they are expected to catch up on the work they missed and to see the teacher to ensure that all the material covered in the class is clearly understood.

ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION

All work submitted in this course will be assessed and evaluated using the standards set by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

80-100% / Very high to outstanding level of achievement. Above the provincial standards.
Level 3
70-79% / High level of achievement. At the provincial level
Level 2
60-69% / Moderate level of achievement. Below, but approaching, the provincial standard
Level 1
50-59% / Passable level of achievement. Below the provincial standard
Below 50% / Insufficient achievement of curriculum expectations. Credit will not be granted.

ASSESSMENT FOR LEARNING

Within each unit, students will be assigned a number of tasks where they will receive direct feedback on their progress and learning. These tasks and the resulting feedback are designed to improve learning, and to provide a foundation for the successful completion of the summative tasks assigned in the unit.

EVALUATION
Your midterm and final grades will be determined by your level of performance on a number of activities. ALL EVALUATION IS BASED ON INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE, there are no group marks. Each of the activities you complete in this course (including tests) will be directly tied to the following achievement areas:
